Should I be worried about this bump on my back that is changing colors and itchy?

Asked by trypaw (332points) August 18th, 2012

I have a pretty small pea sized bump on my back. I’ve had it for probably a year saw a doc once for it and they said it was just a bump. But, every so often it itches and it changes colors too. It can be my skin color, or tan/brown to a light red. It doesn’t really hurt unless I scratch it too hard. Anyone know what it could be?

If it bothers you, see a dermatologist and have it removed. Do you worry it?

Have you had it checked recently? The link below gives good general information on symptoms you should be aware of related to different skin cancers. Signs of Melanoma include moles that change color, size, feel, or that bleed. Hope this helps, good luck.

I agree with @gailcalled. Go to a dermatologist and have it removed. I get a thingy on my back, and other parts of my body that the doctors always say is genetic tendency, and some of them don’t want to bother to remove it because it will likely just grow back. But, on my back, since my back is often dry and itchy, I sometimes tear it open when I scratch, so I want it removed. Sometimes it seems like that specific spot is what is itchy, not sure, but my back can be dry and itchy in general. I have no idea if you have the same thing, and I never remember what the thing is called. But, the only doctor who helps me with it is a dermatologist. God forbid it is something to worry about, at least the dermatologist will be better at diagnosing it.
