What's your nominee for the best portmanteau of 2012?

Asked by ETpro (34605points) December 30th, 2012

In case you aren’t familiar with the word, a portmanteau is a word made up by combining two or more words, or morphemes, and their meanings into a single new word. For instance, smog is made up of smoke and fog (both literally, and as a word).

As the year ends, it seems fitting to decide which new portmanteaus of 2012 are keepers and which are destined for the dustbin of language history. My 2012 favorite is hatriotism. It’s the perfect word for something which has, of recent, become a political staple of the far right in American politics. We needed a word for that. Now we have one. What’s your addition to the portmanteau keeper list for 2012?

Got these from Car Talk:

Sarchasm: The gulf between the author of sarcastic wit and the reader who doesn’t get it.

Reintarnation: Coming back to life as a hillbilly.

Dopeler effect: The tendency of stupid ideas to seem smarter when they come at you rapidly.

Ignoranus: A person who’s both stupid and an ass#&%*.

Vibhater, a female patron of the sex toy who is then wracked with guilt for indulging in the pleasures of the plastic penis…much like Mother Theresa was.

I’m not a big basketball fan but Linsanity made sense for a while.

@wildpotato Oh I used to love to listen to cartalk on the car radio—back when I had a car. Those are terrific.

@rebbel Interesting improv. Well done.

@RandomGirl Copy that.

@ucme Sounds like you love Mother Theresa as much as Bill Maher and Christopher Hitchens do.

@gasman Indeed, fortunately linsanity was a self healing mental illness, whereas general insanity is not.

@JenniferP That one was a class act while it lasted.
