Can surgeons work anywhere else besides surgical centers and hospitals?

Yes, army/navy surgeons work anywhere, including underneath a blown up Humvee in the middle of the road.

They can teach instead of working in surgery. They also can be doctors who don’t use their surgical skills. And as @WestRiverrat pointed out they can work in the field in the military.
