How do I make my day go quicker?

Asked by Headhurts (4505points) June 4th, 2013

Right now I am at work. I finish at 7pm. It is 3.30pm now. I have no work to do. I can’t leave the desk. What can I do to hurry my day along? I am so bored.

Imagine everyone you saw today, or are about to see, was naked & figure out which would make you barf, which would make you laugh & which, just might turn you on…a little :)

Headhurts's avatar

@ucme I’m not about to see many people, but the ones I have seen would absolutely not turn me in any whatsoever. I guess I could think of who I will see when I get home, now THAT would turn me on. Mmmmm, think it’s time to send a naughty text!

Well there you go then, boredom temporarily relieved.

Isn’t there a way that you can ask for more work to do?

Headhurts's avatar

No. I’m a receptionist, if the calls and clients aren’t coming in, then no work for me. I even clean when my boss is in so it’s looks like I’m busy.

Google interesting things!

Do sit-ups, push-ups, dance on the table!

But surely they could give you something to do at your desk… data entry of some sort, perhaps? There must be someone in your office who could use an extra pair of hands to help out.

Do you have a pen and paper? If so, then doodle. I am quite fond of creating blocky fonts with my name.

Start a journal. Write p. 1 of your novel. Read the news of the day. Learn French. Bon Jour. Comment vous appelez-vous? Je m“appelle Gail.

Headhurts's avatar

@glacial I am not in an office. There is only me here.

@gailcalled Good idea, though I did French at school. Perhaps I could have a go at Italian.

Time is yours!

glacial's avatar

@Headhurts I’m confused… are you a receptionist in your own home?

Headhurts's avatar

@glacial No! In a beauty salon.

glacial's avatar

@Headhurts Haha! You really had me wondering… now it makes sense to me.

I guess in that situation, I would start reading as much non-fiction as I possibly could, on subjects that interest me. What a great opportunity to spend time learning!

Pick a subject to look up on Wikipedia and get lost (in a good way).

Read a good book. It’s a great way to speed time. Not a reader? Then find something to do. Keeping busy is the only way to make time fly.

Cracked.com has some interesting countdowns.
@Seek_Kolinahr Nice one. I’ve forgotten about that site! Used to waste so much of my life on it.

When I was a receptionist, I bought a sketch pad and pencils and taught myself to draw.

Start writing a book. About a beauty-salon.

I’m probably a little late with my suggestion seeing as it’s been about 5 hours since you posted the question, but try ”Sporcling” next time you’re bored!

@jordym84 Looks interesting. I will do thank you.
