If a sixty year old woman loses 50 pounds will her waist be a lot smaller?

Asked by Aster (20023points) June 17th, 2013

I just got a stash of diet pills. I fully intend to lose 50 pounds. If I am successful in doing this (I am 5’8”) how many inches off my waistline should I expect? If any?

My advice stay away from diet pills. The only people I know that have tried them are at least fatter then when they started.

Many of the old diet pills have been taken off the market because they have serious side effects other then weight loss.

When we lose weight we tend to lose it all over. Our trouble spots will retain the most fat.

Yes you should lose weight from your waist but it is impossible to say how much. Exercising while dieting will help.

I read online somewhere a man who is 5 foot 8 is about 1 size (2 inches) per 7 lbs of weight gain or loss. My own pants sizes are consistent with that.

You should lost weight around your stomach. How much do you weigh now? I would say typically you would lose 3–6 inches, but it varies for everyone. I hold weight in my stomach, so my waist is difficult to lose. But, please don’t take those diet pills. They can be very dangerous.

I don’t mind taking a chance with them because my weight may ruin my knees and I may have to have knee replacements. I watched Youtube videos first. I think it’s worth the risk like crossing a highway. I’ve already lost 3 pounds simply drinking caffeine free iced tea that I make.
A friend of mine lost 100 pounds with gastric bypass then 10 years later got very sick. She’s fine now. I’d be afraid of a blood clot with one of those. But without it she could have had a heart attack.

I don’t see crossing the highway as the same, but it’s your body.
