Does this sound like a good new set of goals to start on my 29th Birthday?

Asked by Derrick545 (73points) May 18th, 2014

I’m turning 29 in 6 days so I have a few new goals and resolutions that I plan on making. For starters I’m going to quit smoking cold turkey which I started yesterday morning so its been almost 24 hours of no smoking. 2nd, I’m going to start eating healthy as a new lifestyle. The 3rd goal is that I plan on getting in really good physical shape.

You better work on #3 in a hurry as #1 is going to cause a serious dent in both #2 and #3.

Sounds like a good set of goals to start at any point in life. I forgot to add in my last answer that when I quit smoking, I made it a necessity to have healthy food to snack on, and that I would start exercising. My idea was that I didn’t only want to quit a bad habit, I wanted to replace a bad habit with a good one. So yes, I say go for it full force! I’m also 29 and thought it was about time to start being much healthier so I could feel better in general.

First goal is to stop looking at it as a birthday and see it for what it is, a mortality marker.

Second is set a goal that any trip less than a mile where you don’t need a truck, you will make on a bike at least three days out of a week (hopefully building to a whole week).

Congo Rats on stopping smoking!
I don’t celebrate birthdays myself, and only use the day to remind myself to go to the dentist.

If you haven’t done any of these things yet, trying to start them all at the same time will fail, regardless of what day of the year it is. It isn’t good to lump all the goals together either, if you find yourself failing at one, the others have a way of crumbling.

An unhealthy lifestyle does not become a healthy one by setting ambitious goals. You must unlearn what you have learned and create a new lifestyle, which takes time.

But anyway, good luck!
