Why is my computer hanging up when I try to clear my browsing cache?

Asked by Dutchess_III (46814points) February 17th, 2015

Trying to clear it back to the beginning of time, and everything hangs up. Do I just need to do it before I go to bed, give it time to do its thing?

I would chalk it up to something going terribly wrong and restart the computer and try again. It generally happens pretty quickly.

Get an agnostic program like CCLEANER or BLEACHBITS – either of them is external to the browser, and both do a more complete job.

Wait! It just hit me! I don’t want a program that doesn’t believe in God!

@Dutchess_III You’re hoot !
Reboot two or three times (restart with a complete shutdown). Do you use more than one browser? ? Like Chrome and Internet Exploder (oopsie). Try a new browser Firefox or something else.

@elbanditoroso is the one who said “Get an agnostic program!

I use Firefox 99% of the time. I use Chrome only for youtube, because it remembers my login info for my Youtube account.

I did reboot at least twice, and did a full shut down, including rebooting the modem several hours ago. After reading @johnpowell‘s advice, and having done that already, I took a chance and cleared history again. I think it worked. I only show stuff I’ve tapped into since then.
