What to do for my birthday?

Asked by blueberry_kid (5957points) February 25th, 2015

I’ll be 17 and I’m running out of options. I looked on the internet and all the ideas are either lame or too expensive.

I was thinking of doing dinner and having my closer friends spend the night but almost all of my friends have done that.

Help???

What do you love to do @blueberry_kid? Tell us more about you. Could you suggest you all go to the cinema and then have a meal? Or go bushwalking or do something else sporty or active that you’d all enjoy and have fun doing. Do something crazy like a belly dancing (or something that appeals to you) lesson with a group of your girlfriends. Go to the zoo.

Would going out somewhere you all want to go be too expensive?

Don’t feel like you have to have an original idea or impress everyone. If dinner and an overnight is what you and your friends enjoy doing than do that even if it has been done before.

Go outside on a Geocaching treasure hunt. It is very likely there are a couple of boxes hidden within a mile or two of your house in a park or behind a shopping mall or anywhere! It is free. When you find it you can log the find in the notebook and on line and the logging date will be your birthday. Then go out for ice cream or someplace cheap.
Look at Geocaching.com, sign up (you don’t need the premium membership) and the select “Play” “Hide and seek a cache.” Then look at the map to find easy, interesting ones or in your area.

Anytime you can’t think of what to do, exercise.

@janbb I’d lying if I said I didn’t enjoy it for many reasons: the activity, learning about new places, the mental and physical challenges, the people. And it is free. I try to find one wherever I travel. It serves as an online travel diary. I was in the Bayou last week and logged 2 finds.

Dinner and a pyjama party sounds fun. To spice it up a little…

* ...Turn it into a motto party Simple, but fun. Make it a night of idiotic songs, for example, and sing along to things like “Barbie Girl”. Call it a “Goodbye, Childhood” party and play all the games you played when you were little.

* …Work down a list of challenges I did that with a bunch of friends, and it was surprisingly fun. We went around the town with our lists. We spent a while at the library, humming quietly behind bookshelves and watching surprised people look around. We left a few small presents for people to find and, riding the train, would swap our seats every ten seconds or so. We ate cake not using any hands, and had a whipped cream fight on the balcony. There’s lots more, and we still talk about that a lot.

* …Make it a murder mystery dinner Lots of fun, and not that expensive. Everyone gets a character to play, and during dinner, everyone tries to find the murderer in the room. If your friends are creative and not too grown-up, they will love that.

Well, doing things outside is kind of difficult because it’s -8 right now and snowy. So outside activities are kind of out.

I don’t know…I wanted to do dinner and a sleepover but I wanted to do something different. I like basically anything, so long as it isn’t illegal. I thought about a mini sand volleyball game (I play volleyball) with a bunch of friends, but I don’t know.

Maybe that’s a sign I should just have a family dinner and nothing else. I’m just getting more and more boring as I grow older.

How about a dinner party where you all cook something together – or even get a chef in to give you a cooking lesson? Sushi-making??

@LuckyGuy kind of liking the Geocache idea

LuckyGuy's avatar

@blueberry_kid Use a GPS if you can. It will be more accurate than using your phone. Also read comments for the caches in your area. Make sure to pick one that someone found recently. Have someone take your picture when you find it and be sure to post it on the cache site when you log it.
If you need help figuring out how to do it or use the website feel free to PM me. Have fun.

I like the Geocache idea OR the murder mystery thing. Can you get your mum or another family member help you to set up clues or something?

I hope you have a happy birthday anyway.
