Is there no software that weeds out some posts under newspaper articles' or blogs' comments segment?

Asked by flo (13313points) July 23rd, 2015

Instead of ending the whole comments segment or leaving it as is, with all the hostile comments, I mean. If the post includes words, or phrases like x, y, z (insult words, vulgar words, etc. ) it just won’t make it.

How much would you be willing to pay for this software? If people won’t pay for it, It’s hard to see people spending their time/money/effort making it.

I’m not aware of any tools that allow you to filter comments on 3rd party sites like that. It’s not a trivial problem because the software would have to adapt to hundreds of different commenting tools/forums across the web which could change at any time and break your software.

Exactly. This is why online forums of all kinds who wish to moderate their posted comments will always need talented human eyeballs doing the checking & filtering.

Another problem facing software engineers is writing the code that equips the end product with the ability to take the surrounding context into account in the decision making process. Often times it is the context that drives the offensiveness of comments more than the words themselves. At least right now, only human understanding can fairly address that aspect.

I was thinking the newspapers etc. would have it.
