What are you supposed to say in response to "jinx!"?

Specifically, jinx using these rules…
“jinx!
“You owe me a coke!
“1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10!”

What is the jinxed party supposed to say before you reach 10?

As I know it, the jinxed person says nothing. That’s the whole point.

::simultaneous words::
Jinxer: Jinx! You owe me the beverage of my choosing!
Jinxed: ::remains silent while trying to obtain said beverage::
Jinxed: ::hands over beverage::
Jinxed: ::is free to speak::

This gets difficult when you’re working at a camp where the only place to buy beverages is in the snack shop, which is closed for most of the day, and you have to track down the one person with the key (and get them to open the snack shop for you) without saying anything to anybody. But I digress.

Wikipedia says: “One common but not ubiquitous rule is that the jinxer must count to a predetermined number (such as ten) without being interrupted after saying “jinx”. The jinx may be broken during this counting period by the potential jinxee or anyone else in the room.”

I read that as “say anything to break the jinx.”

When the jinxer is counting, just say the next number they are about to say and jinx them back. That’s what I’d do anyways.

It doesn’t matter what age they are, you throw one of those out and you’ve got control. You could also win an award for it.

For us, it was always “Jinx, Pinch (pinch them), Poke (punch them in the arm), you owe me a Coke.” Whoever could say it and performed all the actions first got a Coke. Or if you were my sister, a Pepsi.
Mayhem and bruising, the stuff of childhood memories.

@knot: Yes. That’s how I remember it, too. My own sister couldn’t care less about the jinx or the coke, but ooh(!), she really liked pinching me hard.
