How can I fax without a landline?

Asked by 2davidc8 (10189points) April 23rd, 2017

The file I want to fax is on my PC (Win 7). Is it possible to fax it without a phone line?

Why don’t you scan it and email it? Or, if it’s already a file on your computer, just email the file.

@Dutchess_III Sometimes a fax copy is required; I have a weekly fax I have to send at work that the recipient points out must be sent by fax because of a rule approved by the SEC.

@Dutchess_III The arrangement I’ve made with the recipient is that I should send them a fax. (And actually, it’s more than just one file, it’s 3 files, one after the other.) To save money, I just dropped my landline phone, so I’m looking for an alternate way to send them fax. If there is a satisfactorily convenient way, I would prefer this, since I won’t “rock the boat” and have to deal with corporate bureaucracy to change things.
But yes, if there is no free and convenient way, I’ll have to contact them and ask if email will do.
@nafcom Which email services provide free faxing?

The problem is, I think, is that “fax” IS via landline one way or another. I don’t know of any way around it. I don’t know of any way that you could send an email TO the receiver’s landline fax. My computer has an option to fax…but a landline is required.

I’m looking at the options @nafcom is presenting. Looks like you can upload a electronic file to that 3rd party and they’ll fax it for you (using a landline) but that completely blows security out of the water (which is the reason some companies give for preferring fax over email. They think it’s more secure somehow.)

So what did they say to an email @2davidc8?

@Dutchess_III I’m now using FaxZero, and it’s working great for me. I don’t have any security concerns, so it’s fine for me.
