When did burgers become a fast food staple?

I think fast food has been around since ancient Roman times. There is an ancient fast food service counter in the Vatican Museum.

I think burgers were fast food from the beginning. They were first introduced to the masses as convenient finger food at the Chicago World’s Fair aka the Columbian World Exhibition in 1892–3 from stands in the fairway along with the hot dog and the ice cream cone.

I just watched ” The Founder” the other night about Ray Krocs franchising idea for the original McDonalds burger joint in San Bernadino CA. in 1954. He was a real shyster, stole the McDonalds name and bought up land and built multiple franchises against the original brothers wishes and, ultimately, forced them to sell out to him. In the end they had to re-name the original McDonalds burger stand something else, all they had left, well, and a couple million dollars from the buyout. They were also promised a small percentage of the profits which they never received and would be worth billions today.

In the 1920s and 1930s Americans were discovering the pleasures of motorcade. Along with the new concept of “motels” motor hotels there were a plethora of roadside food establishments
They were mostly hot dog and hamburger stands because those foods could be conveniently cooked up in the time it took to deep fry an order of French-sliced potatoes, better known today as “French fries”, or simply “fries”.

I don’t know, but I was hoping I’d get to try a buffalo burger while I was in the top end. Not managed to find anything particularly unique so far. If not a buff burger, perhaps a croc taco or an emu pie!

I don’t know, but I hope someone is eventually able to develop a good vegetarian fast food restaurant that also appeals to meat eaters.
