Does Donald Trump use mesmerism techniques to fascinate his followers?

Asked by RealEyesRealizeRealLies (30951points) September 19th, 2017

Donald Trump consistently uses the phrase “Believe Me” in his public speech. Is this an accidental habit, like some people consistently say “Right” or “You know” in their public speaking, apparently not realizing it?

Or could it be that he is a master of the art of mesmerism and fascination, intentionally saying “Believe Me” consistently enough that it sinks into the subconscious of those susceptible to powers of suggestion?

Are Donald Trump speech patterns masterful or moronic?

Nothing Trump does is masterful. Nothing. Manipulative, yes. Masterful, no.
He’s just like a preacher saying, “You have to believe.” After I quit going to church, but found my self in a sermon for whatever reason, I was floored at how many time the preachers said “You have to believe,” during the service. I guess I just never noticed it when I was a church-goer.
Trump is just like the preacher who knows he’s preaching bullshit, but his livelihood depends on people believing it.

This quote from Trump’s “Art of the Deal” helps explain how he operates…

“The final key to the way I promote is bravado. I play to people’s fantasies. People may not always think big themselves but they can get very excited by those who do. That is why a little hyperbole never hurts. People want to believe that something is the biggest, the greatest and the most spectacular.”

Also, yes. He says it. Like a nervous tic. He doesn’t even realize he’s saying it AGAIN.

Could he be, masterfully manipulative…?

Or is it truly Homer Simpson playing to the widest audience?

Really? I’m not so sure. Techniques of fascination and mesmerism revolve around intentional repetition to hypnotize and seduce. His delivery is tick-like. But there is a philosophy out there that states that if you keep saying, or hearing a thing over and over again, then it can actually change the belief system in a persons mind. Advertising relies upon this principle.

It’s hard to say he’s outsmarted half the population. He certainly doesn’t present that way… Which may also be part of the roos.

I understand that. That’s why preachers say “You have to believe!” 7 times in a sermon. But I still think he just says it from habit.
