Will you be attending a rapid response protest tomorrow?

Asked by Mariah (25883points) November 7th, 2018

The “resignation” (firing) of Jeff Sessions and appointment of Matthew Whittaker constitutes a Constitutional crisis, triggering the rapid response of nationwide protests.

I will be protesting in the Boston Common at 5pm tomorrow. Will you be attending your local rapid response action?

I just really need a bit of a break right now from it so I won’t.

Mariah's avatar

@Patty_Melt Can you elaborate? Regardless of leanings, why shouldn’t an independent investigation be allowed to be conducted in an impartial manner?

@janbb I get that. Last night I was psyched because I thought I could relax about politics for the next two years. I am not happy at all to be called into action today.

The investigation went on, and on, and on. They stopped beating the dead horse and used the farcical label of investigation to dig into totally unrelated issues.
He has fired a man with a nothing mission who absorbed millions just to make himself popular with dems. If you think Mueller was doing you any favors, you are fooling yourself.

It wasn’t an independent investigation. It was a huge waste of resources which might have gone to schools, or setting up a decent medical plan.
Mueller wasn’t doing any favors for Americans, he was squandering American dollars.
Good riddance.

I was asked to elaborate.
I did.

Interesting take, @Patty_Melt. If cost is your main concern, then I assume you’re about 3 times as upset about the cost of Trump’s golf trips than you are about the cost of Mueller’s investigation. Otherwise, that’d be awful hypocritical.

I, personally, am more interested on spending taxpayer dollars on making sure we have a functioning democracy than on Trump’s leisure activities.

How nice to see a display of what we’ve learned about treating our differences respectfully.

Wow, that was incredibly rude and uncalled for.

The firing of Sessions is an entirely different event than the midterms, so I don’t see how it is in any way unreasonable to be both happy with the midterms and unhappy with the triggering of a Constitutional crisis. I am not spoiling for a fight. Like I said, I was quite ready to relax until this happened.

Wow @Patty_Melt Way to be rude as hell and then leave. We can disagree without being disagreeable.

sigh, Patty. very rude.

I would attend if I was in the US. Why any American would want to shut down the Mueller investigation is incomprehensible to me and to cite cost as the reason is bizarre.

Trump lovers are loving it.

People that want truth are hating it, dictator is in control.

Constitutional crisis? The whole country is in a crisis. I will not be protesting. Let Trump hang himself. As far as I am concerned, we should let him do what he thinks he can, and then punish him. If he’s such a stable genius, he shouldn’t make any mistakes.

I guess I just don’t see much reason to protest Trump. The people who support him are the problem.

I personally love that Sessions is gone. Just another thing to throw on the Trump shouldn’t be POTUS pile. I wish jellies who support him would go read their posts from after the POTUS election. All the crap about Trump surrounding himself with the best people. His cabinet has more turnover than a McDonald’s. I see a simple pattern here. Trump really wants just himself in charge. He desires a god-like rule, where he is beyond any possible criticism, or and it must be assumed that he is incapable of anything but perfection.

I was not aware that there was such a rapid response. I will not be attending any official protests, but will be following the news. It seems quite likely that the Mueller investigation is about to be terminated.

I just hope he has gotten the papers out to someone or has a draft locked up somewhere.

@miriah. I’ll be watching but not participating. But thank you so much for wanting to make a difference and having your voice heard. You reminded me of a movie from the late 70’s, The Way We Were with Barbara Striesand. She was an activist in the movie. As a matter of fact, you inspired me to watch it again so I just bought it from amazon.

@Mariah Yes, I’ll second the thanks. We love you!

I would not support a MoveOn.org event. No surprise there. I don’t see a Constitutional Crisis in firing Sessions. I see a lot of hype over a lot of nothing. As far as I’m concerned, the POTUS doesn’t need a reason to ask someone to resign. They might have differing opinions on things and Trump may want someone more in line with his goals. Not a crime…better management. Companies do this all the time.
If this is about fear that Trump is trying to stop the Mueller investigation, I just don’t see it. But I would say that the Mueller investigation has been a huge waste of money. It was a witch hunt from the start and it found really nothing. I was an effort to try digging up something that could be used to impeach Trump. It didn’t come close to anything like that. And Mueller is supposedly writing up his final report anyway. So no, I will not be supporting more liberal hype.

Firing Sessions might’ve been fine, if he had allowed Rod Rosenstein to ascend to AG and continue overseeing the Mueller investigation. As it is, he hired Matthew Whittaker, who has published opinion pieces hostile to the investigation, to oversee it. A clear conflict of interest.

Turnout was good in Boston this evening. Several hundred people at least. Maybe as many as a thousand. I don’t really know how to estimate crowd sizes.
