Tech Question for iphones PLEASE HELP?

Asked by BackinBlack (1207points) December 14th, 2018

I know my relationship is messed up obviously this shouldn’t be an issue but I need answers.

My husband looked at my phones text usage time and it is 2 hours longer than his. I don’t text with anyone but him and occasionally my family. He uses his text for work quite often.

He was really concerned that I was texting someone and deleting the messages and that is why mine had so much more usage than his (so f***** dumb).

Does anyone know what would cause this to happen? I often leave my text screen open after sending a message and I noticed he always closes his immediately.

How does apple track text usage time?

As far as I know, it is the amount of time the screen is on in an app.

But I am not a developer for apple, so take from that what you will.

It sounds like your husband is a controlling dick. He should believe his wife and not jump to conclusions. I believe that @mowens is correct and that the app is measuring the time the screen is open. If you’re slower to type, or leave the screen on, that might affect the numbers. It could also be a bug (the feature is new after all).

He is looking at the wrong number if he really doesn’t trust you. What he should be doing is looking at the monthly cell bill, which will give a summary total of all texts that you have made or received.

Then, if he wants to look at details, he can download the detailed, itemized list of all texts from the cell provider’s bill pay page. On T-Mobile you have to click and choose “detailed” to see this information.

But I agree with @gorillapaws – your husband is an ass. Maybe you should look at the detail of HIS text messages,

The time of use is really meaningless. It’s the # of texts that is important.

As @elbanditoroso said, he should look at the bill to get at least the number of texts. The hours used by the app only says that you stare at the app longer than he does, not indicative of how many texts are sent out.

I told him to look at the bill and he said he “didn’t want to do that” and that it doesn’t show text’s anyway….

I rarely text anybody and I know he does text people A LOT with work, his family texts him a ton, and he has buddies he texts with so I also find it VERY strange that my text time would be more than his.

I think it has to do with the fact I leave it open often instead of closing it after each text.

I also don’t use the text back on the home screen option like he does. Like you can reply to a message without opening the app, I don’t use that.

This is silly. Thanks for the responses though.

Offer to trade phones with him for a couple of days.

He is gaslighting you. He is telling you something that isn’t true. If you stay with him, you’re dumb. You shouldn’t let anyone do something like that.
