Why do they call people who become famous in the entertainment industry “stars”?

Asked by josie (30934points) April 14th, 2019

Is there a particular reason for the astrological reference?
Why not kings or gods or lions or some other allusion to exalted status?

Because they are actors or actresses (and others) who play principal roles and that stand out pre-eminently among the rest of us and their peers. Like stars in the heavens that stand out in the night.
