Do you believe that a real UFO landing, covered on live TV, will happen during your lifetime?

Asked by JackAdams (6574points) August 26th, 2008

I believe that, before I die, all the TV networks all over the world will interrrupt their normal broadcasts to announce that an Unidentified Flying Object is indeed landing in a highly populated area of Planet Earth, and that around-the-clock live TV and radio coverage of this spectacular event will dominate the airwaves.

I’m optimistic enough to believe that the extraterrestrial occupants of the spacecraft will look exactly as we look, and that “they” will be both friendly and benevolent.

I also believe that some Earthlings will panic, and try to harm the visitors, or that they will riot in the streets and loot businesses.

I just hope/pray the the US military doesn’t “over-react” to them, with suspicion and violence, because if they are indeed “that advanced” scientifically, then they would have the power to eliminate all of us.

@Jack: I wish you a very long life and a lot of patience.—Have you thought of joining a branch of the American Astronomical Association?

I doubt it’ll happen any time soon….probably not in our lifetimes I’d assume…as much as I’d like it to happen, it probably won’t. I’ll keep my fingers crossed.

If you were approaching planet earth, looking for a spot to land on, why in the world would you go for a densely populated spot?? I’m thinking it’ll be Siberia and when these visitors make themselves known, noone will believe them and lock them up in prisons or asylums for being crazy

I imagine live in a world where I’m the only sane person. I see the major events that shape people’s lives and understand them for what they really are, even though no one else does. I am special. I am good. I am unarguably super fine looking. And I am humble.

I try to share my unique insights with the rabble that I must, at times, associate with. But they don’t understand my genius. They misinterpret my wisdom. They think that I, I, am the crazy one. But they are wrong.

And they will be sorry one day. One day soon.

is rob about to head for the clock tower with a rifle??

heh… no, that’s not about me (hence the admittedly obtuse use of italics).

If the extra terrestrials have any intelligence at all, they would either stay the hell away from Earth or just blow it up.

@meltedcrayon agreed.

Unidentified Flying Objects land all the time. They’re called experimental aircraft, and they’re classified, which is why they are unidentified. They are built and flown by human beings right here on good ol’ planet Earth.

But I did see a white rabbit hop past my patio door last night. Seriously!

I think it will happen. They will fly right over the White House and take congress back home :)

No advanced civilization could ever be responsible in any way, for the current composition of the USA Congress.

@JackAdams: What if they land somewhere outside the US or its areas of interest (read: oil-producing countries) – how will they ever know about it??

JackAdams's avatar

Good question!

Pose it separately, and see what answers you get.

Ah, but the question may fall outside of US interest and therefore go unanswered!!

Has Jack Adams been getting into the Jack Daniels? UFO under a cover anywhere on earth, no way. However, while working on the MoPac RR in the 60’s dead stopped in the middle of the soy fields of Arkansas at 2 or 3 in the AM waiting for a certain time to come so we could proceed, with no ambient light for miles and miles, I saw some pretty weird things. I honestly don’t know if they were UFO’s or not, may have been. But doubt if one is sitting in a hanger somewhere.

@Cardinal: Possibly under the pool or in the frizzer, however.
