Have protestors blocking traffic really been run over by cars wanting them to get out of the way?

Asked by Aster (20023points) August 17th, 2020

So a person needs to get to work but they’re being blocked by a row of protestors locking arms or a woman is giving birth in her car and needs a hospital – the situations are varied.
Have some of these people actually been run over by impatient drivers?

According to this as of July 9 66 protestors have been hit by cars.

Situationally, yes…they have. Usually it involves the driver either feeling threatened or having road rage caused by the protesters. This is an example of fear driving the incident, though to be honest, they weren’t protesters, they were motorcyclists. But the motorcyclists felt they were entitled to do what they wanted which sounds amazingly like many protesters these days. This wasn’t an automobile, but was a train. I was stationed around San Francisco when this happened. This guy and his buddies were sitting on the tracks in protest to stop a train coming from a naval weapons station. This article doesn’t explain the entire story. The sat on the tracks on a curve. The engineer was not in a position to even see them until he was right on top of them. There would not have been enough time to stop even if he had. It was a pretty long train. And this idiot just sat there saying they would stop. The train was barely moving when it ran him over. And the irony? It was an empty train. They thought they were stopping the transfer of missiles or bombs but it was empty. This one shows a jeep that drove through protesters blocking the roads. The protesters scattered, but at least one of the “peaceful protesters” opened fire on the jeep.

See the video YARNLADY posted. The protesters are actively taunting and threatening the motorists. What a stupid thing to do.

@Dutchess_lll Let’s be real honest, I bet many of us would floor that gas pedal in some of those situations, regardless of politics. If you had your grandkids in the car, it wouldn’t even be a question, am I right?

Dutchess_lll's avatar

Quite possibly. That’s why they are stupid for threatening the people in the cars.

@KNOWITALL “we would floor that gas pedal” ? Seriously? I wouldn’t do that unless the protestors were off to the side of the road! I don’t think I’d look good in orange.

She framed it around them putting my grand kids in danger. She wasn’t suggesting anyone would do it on a whim.
If they were putting my grand children in danger you damn skippy I’d use my car to protect them by any means necessary.

If I had a shitty car I’d drive right through a crowd, I wouldn’t drive fast enough to kill them, just fast enough for them to realize they need to get the fuck out of the way.

Dutchess_lll's avatar

What if one pulled a gun on you, with your kids, or grandkids, in the car @cheebdragon?

Yellowdog's avatar

That’s why “protestors” get run over and killed.

When you are being pelted with bricks and bottles and they are trying to pull you or your children out of the car, you floor it. You may be on the news, you may go to prison, but your children might be saved.

@Dutchess_lll I’d floor it and they would be human speed bumps.

I ran over a little kid with a shopping cart when I was a teenager. He wouldn’t get out of the way and I didn’t have time to deal with his bullshit. His mom was pretty pissed but she was a massive lady and the store was really crowded so she never caught up to us.

^^^ :D. Some kids deserve it!
