IPod firmware feature updates?

Asked by blastfamy (2174points) September 9th, 2008

The iPods being release after today will be able to invoke the same Pandora-style music matching as iTunes can (v8).

I have a 6G iPod Classic. How likely is it that Apple will update the firmware on the old iPod to support the “Genius” feature?

Do you mean allow it to have a firmware update and update and add the new features like iPhone and iPod Touch. Your chances are slim to none. would like to do the same with my 5G iPod Video. But I need a new one.

I’m guessing you’re talking about the ‘Genius’ feature? Clearly the three people above were feeling pretty pessimistic, and I was hoping to bring a speck of optimism to the question with this article on Mac Rumors. However, after having followed the link to the CNET article and reading it, it turns out an update which includes the Genius feature is, at this stage, quite unlikely.

Actually Apple has confirmed it will update older iPod Classics.
