I don’t know that it is true. Assuming there is such a thing as evil, many evil people have high IQs. Ted Bundy, Hitler….others.

Is it? The phrase “evil genius” exists for a reason…

canidmajor's avatar

It’s not. Why do you think that?

RedDeerGuy1's avatar

It is the low hanging fruit to judge someone as evil or stupid when we have a problem with them

HP's avatar

@RedDeerGuy1 i think when it happens, that’s the reason. It’s the “easy way out”.

HP's avatar

I@canidmajor perhaps the caveat that this is not always the case ,should have been stipulated.

I wouldn’t call Putin stupid, but certainly insane. He has put Russian nuclear forces on full alert / standby, the first time this has happened since the end of the Cold War. Steadily pushing the world to the brink.

It’s insanity to you and I perhaps, but there can be little question as to which side is the superpower here and who has the greatest fear of whom. There isn’t a chance in hell of Russia successfully integrating itself militarily with any nation iin this hemisphere, let alone on our border. You are probably too young, but I have distinct memories of the Cuban missile crisis, and I haven’t been that afraid since. Shoe on the other foot, but I damned sure remember.

Nomore_Tantrums's avatar

@HP Nope. I remember it as well. As with the stupid Duck and Cover drills in school. As if a piece of wood over your head would protect you from nuclear fall out.

elbanditoroso's avatar

It’s often true, but certainly not always.

@Nomore_Tantrums And remember the United States declared unilaterally that there would be no strategic military capability involving Russian forces on the “sovereign” island of Cuba. It turned out that at the time, the Soviet Union actually lacked the military muscle to match the United States, but they instantly got the lesson and vowed to match our ability to destroy the world, and failure that it was, the Soviets in this endeavor were successful beyond measure.

And therein lies the insanity. If the world is destroyed there are no winners or losers. Just radiated corpses.

No I think someone evil would have to be pretty smart to expand their evil reach.
