Why was my 1st post (reply) blocked?

Asked by ceekay (26points) March 26th, 2022

I was searching google for a particular query I had on why conservatives use the laugh emoji to respond to serious topics. I came across this website which I had never heard of. I have been a user of Quora for years and Also participate in other forums, but this is the 1st time hearing of Fluther. I gave my opinion. I was instantly moderated. There was no profanity in my message and I was trying to be Sincere. However, as I scrolled up, I read lots of messages with profanity and inflammatory comments and those people seem to be very popular users. Thier comments remained. Why was mine suppressed?

Thanks!

Welcome to Fluther.

Blocked? It wasn’t. Look here:

I gave you your first GA (“Great Answer”) for that post, which is why your score went up by five points.

You can also find a link to that post under your profile.

By the way, just so you know, the Meta section is intended for questions about Fluther itself and related matters. No harm done by posting under General, though. It’s just part of getting to know us.

We have a good and faithful team of moderators here who protect this site and stick to the rules. If you have a problem with a post, you can flag it and they will review it. The page you posted on was a bit contentious, but I didn’t see profanity and inflammatory comments. If you question the suitability of content, though, flag it.

I have been blocked from posting any further questions. I guess I am going to stick to other sites.

@ByronTheRefinedMan You asked a question a few hours ago that’s still up. If they removed something else you wrote, that doesn’t mean you’re banned.

@Both of you You can use the “Contact the Mods” button at the top of the page if you want to question why something was removed.

If they ever ban someone completely, they will explain why but that doesn’t happen often.

@ceekay Compared to other sites, this one is still pretty mild. If an answer itself was blocked it often has to do with the person actually not answering the question or picking or attacking someone. I don’t mean attacking their view but attacking the person personally. For instance. Let’s say I asked what are people’s favorite dishes and people started to respond by saying their favorite people and others found it humorous and started to throw in all kinds of silly things. All of them will get their post deleted because they aren’t answering my question. Now if I asked what is your favorite dish to make your lover, under social then the question is different in the sense that you want to know more about behavior, not really just a factual thing.

The idea is for people to actually get the answer they want. Not a nonsense response.
So it does not have to be personal, just a response put in the wrong place.
In the beginning, it took me a while to understand every question should be a question and placed in the right place or it gets sent back to you to edit.

At first, I thought it was about spelling errors (because that is extremely hated here) but when I didn’t find the error then I would write to the mods and they pointed out it was not placed in the right category.
Fluther is more about people actually trying to help each other but like anywhere else, when it comes to politics or religion, it can get a little heated and ugly as very right clashes with very left, but we all do try to keep it civil. I’ve had my responses sometimes blocked and didn’t understand why and asked the mods and sometimes it was because they didn’t see it as actually answering the question. It’s easy to respond to another person’s reply and forget to actually answer the question. Just had a reply blocked the other day, I’m sure for that very reason.
By the way, since this question is about Fluther, it would fall under Meta, Not General.

If you want to go, then go. No one is going to beg for you to stay, if you have a negative attitude.

@janbb I have ran into an issue when writing new a question sometimes the continue button doesnt seems to function.

Reset your computer or phone. We all have that issue at one time or another @ByronTheRefinedMan. It’s not you personally.

If anything is ever modded off, the mods will let you know why and you’ll be able to edit it or delete it.
