What is the inflation adjusted price of a us postage stamp compared to the cost in 1965?

Asked by Ltryptophan (12091points) April 10th, 2022 from iPhone

I think the current price of a forever stamp is still less than 75 cents. If we adjust for inflation what would the prices look like in comparison?

First Class today is $ 0.58 for up to an ounce and $ 0.78 for up to two ounce.

First class in 1965 was $0.05 and inflation rate from 1965 to today is about 9 . . . would be just inflation $0.45

Sending a letter through the mail is sill a bargain whatever it is. I love our USPS.

I think the USPS is the best govt. service we have. Provides service to almost every single American, rich or poor, for very low cost.
