If I call Netflix for this, will they do anything?

Asked by SergeantQueen (12874points) June 22nd, 2023

I pay for my own Netflix account
I am the ONLY ONE that uses it.

When I hang out with my boyfriend, I log into his TV so we can watch. He never watches it when I am not there, so its a couple hours 2 times a week ish.

It is only one profile, and 99% of the viewing is at my house.

Why was I prompted to pay the extra $8 to add a member? Does this mean I cannot watch at his house anymore? To me, this is the equivalent of Netflix locking you out when you use it on a device at a hotel or something. Like, they have to be able to tell its not being watched non stop, or simultaneously as me.

I feel it is dumb and I want to call Netflix and explain, but are they just going to tell me I cannot because I am watching it at someone elses house?

Are you watching Netflix on his apple TV? What if you brought your computer along and watched it from your computer at his house instead?

If you’re still signed in at your primary location this may happen. Netflix recently made this change. They don’t allow streaming from two different networks simultaneously. It’s an idiotic move that is receiving backlash. There are some workarounds like bringing your streaming device that has an identified mac address to your network & account. I think there are some others.

With Netflix new rules on password sharing, I think I read that you simply need to notify them in advance that you’ll be using your account at a different location. I dropped Netflix over a year ago & I haven’t needed to try it, so my explanation may be a little bit off. I don’t think that you need to call them. I’m assuming that there is a place on your account where you can submit a request, but I could be wrong!!! Go into your account & search for it If you can’t do it online, it should give you instructions on what to do. Found this on Netflix saying you can set up his home as your 2nd home to make it easier. It doesn’t give step by step instructions on the setup; but after seeing that it can be done, you can take it from here to find the details.

I have four thoughts. One is @LadyMarissa has good ideas. Two is see if Netflix has on their site a “help” button or a “contact us” or a “FAQs” section where you can find the answer there. Three is just keep watching at the second location until they lock it where you are no longer unable to, then decide if your bf wants to subscribe on his own or you both stop watching at his house. My final thought is log in on your Netflix account on your computer at his house and hook the computer up to his TV using an HDMI cable and see if that works.

You can call netflix from the website if you are logged in to the website. There is a “call us” button that you can click and your phone will ring.
