Do you miss whitewall tires?

Asked by elbanditoroso (33170points) August 4th, 2023

I haven’t seen them in decades. I think only collectors can get them.

Many tires are (or were, I haven’t checked lately) made with whitewalls. You have/had a choice if you want(ed) them to show or not.
I liked having whitewalls on my ‘69 Chevy pick-up. The rims were white and had beauty rims, standard shiny hub caps, and the top of the cab was white. Very nice!

What’s the matter with the car I’m driving?
“Can’t you tell that it’s out of style?”
Should I get a set of white wall tires?
“Are you gonna cruise the miracle mile?
Nowadays you can’t be too sentimental
Your best bet’s a true baby blue Continental”
Hot funk, cool punk, even if it’s old junk
It’s still rock and roll to me

I do not missthem , they were a pain in the ass to keep clean, especially after the meter maid chalked them. and on my 72 Plymouth Duster a two inch wide white wall looked silly.

I still see them at car shoes where I live. I’m surprised they haven’t made a come back. I don’t miss them per se, but every time the fashion changes it’s an opportunity to sell more stuff.

Well, no. My first car came with white wall tires and I had them turn them around before I took possession. I remember buying tires that I had installed with the white showing on the inside. I remember it because when new, the white part was always blue…...it was something to keep the white part clean during shipping I guess. I washed off. But, WWTs are not missed by me.

I never liked whitewall tires, so I ALWAYS turned them to the inside so they didn’t show. I’m glad they’re out of fashion now!!! I think you can still buy them if you want them.
