What do you think of "Now And Then"?

Asked by filmfann (52236points) November 2nd, 2023

Link

Paul, George, and Ringo worked on an unreleased John Lennon track, and set it aside for nearly 30 years, until engineers were able to use sound separation through an Artificial Intelligence program.
So, thoughts?
Does this really qualify as another Beatles song?
Is it any good?

Your link doesn’t work for me.
But I looked it up on YouTube. I like the song. It sounds like the Beatles. But I find it creepy the way it was made.

To me it sounds a lot like a “The Moody Blues” song. Kind of melancholy and sad.
I don’t like it at all.

I work in music, and love the Beatles, I love it personally. Nice of Yoko to give it to the guys.

How it came together. I can honestly say that this is my least fave Beatles song. Calling it “the last Beatles song” seems appropriate since John didn’t really collab on it & they cheated to Give George his solo. I don’t like the idea of AI music but the music industry doesn’t care what I think…there’s money to be made!!! I didn’t care for the Lisa Marie & Elvis Presley duet either. They didn’t sing together, so it seems like it’s a lie to me. I also wasn’t fond of Freddie Mercury doing a duet with Brian May at one of their performances with Adam Lambert. As it caught me off guard, I did enjoy seeing Freddie one more time & yet I felt like I had been cheated. With Now & Then, I don’t think John would have agreed to release it & Paul & Ringo were just fooling themselves.

I have not been able to hear the song in it’s entirety, as might be true of others. Ask again in 6 months or so…

@kritiper It’s on YouTube as well s the video.

@filmfann I listened to the song and thought it was ok, not stellar. Then I watched the video and find it kind of creepy. They “dubbed” in younger George and John in ways that don’t really gell with old Ringo and George.

I don’t object to the technique per se but I think this rendering is a bit bizarre.

I am a huge Beatle fan, and John was always my fav.
Of the entire Beatles catalogue, this song isn’t in my top 100. It’s not as bad as Mr. Moonlight, but nowhere (man) as good as their average work.

EHHHHH. Nothing grand other than the technology to get it out there.
And what about that “Stone’s” Album.
