What is that thing which reminds you of your love for somebody?

Especially when you seem to forget sometimes. A song perhaps. A place. A book. A meeting.

Many songs, of course. They trigger memories for me. Same with scraps of poetry.

And sometimes a special meal can do it.

Back when I had a halfway decent sense of smell, it was this vanilla oil my first G.F. would wear. If I smell it on someone, a flood of memories comes back.

^^Sometimes in my case, it’s not the actual smelling of the scent…even just the memory of how that scent smelled triggers the emotion in me.

Hershey’s chocolate reminds me of my aunt and mom. Lol. I don’t really ever forget about them though.

Pipe smoke reminds me of my Grandpa M.

Checkers reminds me of my Grandpa W.

A sweet friend gave me a Santa ornament, and I keep it hung up by my front door. It always brings a smile to my face when I see it.

The excitement I feel momentarily when I see my wife from a distance…in a store for instance. We go there together and get separated and when I catch sight of her I get a jolt of excitement. Still happens after 22 years.

Many things remind me of my mom, who passed away in 2021, but one of them that I was just looking at again a little while ago was a teddy bear that my sister-in-law made for me and one for each of my other sisters, out of one of my mom’s dresses, so that we could remember her by it.
