I am going to kill word '08?

Asked by jtvoar16 (2171points) October 22nd, 2008

Okay, I give the F*** right UP! I have been forced to use Word ‘08 by many, many, people. I don’t mind it so much, that is until I get one of my documents back with Tracked Changes.
I am currently writing a novel with my best friend, we both write and we both edit each others work. We both use the “Track Changes” feature Word and Pages has, however when I use Pages, her computer can not see them, so I have to use Word.
Alright, now I am just ranting: I am wondering if there is some way to set the default size of the text in the comment notes, or bubbles, or whatever you call them.
I can’t read them unless I use Mac’s built in zoom and it is getting really, really, damn annoying.

…and I thought Word ‘07 sucked.

Go back to 04. Trust me. 08 is just sh1tty. Worse IMProP than 07 for Winbloze. I tried 08 on Leopard, on my MacBook Pro, and it’s slow, flaky and has alot of unnecessary changes to the GUI which are completely counter intuitive. And as far as I can tell, M$ also removed a bunch of features that I got used to over the past few years and used quite frequently.

08 is supposed to “run better” on Intel Macs and not use the UB features and “slow your machine” like 04. But honestly, I have never had that problem with 04 and Leopard.

If you can’t find a retail copy there has to be another resource out there like eBay where you can get a new/old stock or used copy.

And as long as we’re on th subject of 08, Powerpoint sucks major moose-butt, too. I had a couple of presos that I designed on PP 04 and 08 screwed them like a cockerel in a pullet pool!

Go back…go baaaaaack…gooo baaaaaaaaaack….

Um, nice question?

I was all set to tease you about this question, since it’s not actually a question, but then I read the description. I checked it out and it’s actually pretty complex. I have Office:Mac 04, so this may not work.

Take a look at this forum thread and there is an explanation on how to set up a keyboard shortcut to alter text size in Word 08 for Mac. Not sure it will work with comments – for me, the text LOOKS the same size even though the toolbar claims it’s being increased. For me, if I double click a comment, it will open in a small sub-window, and when I alter text size there it registers properly. Experiment with shortcuts and maybe you’ll find a way.

Good luck!

PS – I know someone who always navigates while zoomed in to the max, and he’s pro at it. Maybe if you do it long enough it won’t be so difficult.

@Eambos: Um…we’re talking about Office for Mac here. XP is not even in the ballpark.

Sorry, can’t help there. The only software I like less than MS Word is Office.

Well, the shortcut thing helped, not in the way intended though. It appears you can’t alter the size of the text in comments, however if you open the “Review Pane” you can see the changes in the font size they were made in, thus, if you type in a size 16 font, then the changes are displayed in the pane as size 16.
I was able to create a shortcut for “Reject Change” and “Accept Change” so I just now ignore the dumb bubbles.
I so seriously can’t wait till my co-aurther gets a mac and I FORCE her to use Pages, (SO MUCH BETTER!)
But yes, thanks again for the shortcut tip, I didn’t realize I could change that many things in the mac version.

I don’t have word ‘08, I prefer word’07. I found it was so good when I got used to it
