How do you make some good Guacamole?

Asked by Palindrome (1084points) October 24th, 2008

I used to have this friend who’s mom made some of the freshest and most awesome tasting guacamole. Just wondering if anyone knows a good recipe?

Here’s my recipe (roughly): 2 avocados cubed, 1 small tomato seeded and diced, 1/4 c. onion finely chopped, 2 cloves finely chopped garlic, a little hot pepper, juice of one half lime, salt/pepper, I like some basil too.

Put all that in a bowl and beat it up with a fork, done.

Spoon the flesh of an avocado into a bowl. Mash roughly with a fork, leaving some chunks. Add 1/2 tsp salt, 1/2 tsp pepper, 1/4 tsp garlic powder, and a squeeze of fresh lime juice.

Sour Cream, Cilantro,

@simone: Please tell me you’re joking. Cilantro, maybe, but sour cream doesn’t belong anywhere near good guacamole.

My recipe is:

-Flesh of two avocados
-Juice of about half a lime
-Handful of cilantro, chopped
-Quarter of an onion, finely diced
-Two cloves of garlic, finely minced
-One small tomato or half a large one, diced
-Salt and Pepper to taste

Mash the avocado, and then mix in everything else.

Edit:
breedmitch, I think sour cream belongs very near good guacamole, like in a taco, next to each other, but yeah, definitely not in. I’ve had guacamole like that. It was freakin weird.

@Chica: You’re right. Near: yes (mmm fajitas) but in: no.
Make it red onion and you’re recipe is the same as mine. Must be our Texaness.

I echo la chica’s recipe, but add more garlic and garlic salt. And a little lemon juice as well.

And only tomato if it’s super-duper fresh.

Mine is super basic:
Flesh of two avocados
Lime juice to taste (usually half – one whole lime)
Salt to taste

Squish everything together with a fork. I love it!

Mine’s pretty basic too:

- Flesh of one avocado
– Squirt of lemon juice (maybe a quarter of a lemon, if you’re counting)
– Generous sprinkle of garlic salt

Mush them all together with a fork until slightly lumpy, and then stir in:

- One small diced tomato (but andrew’s right – only if it’s super-fresh!)
