How do Press Releases work?

Asked by jballou (2128points) November 5th, 2008

Specifically, how do you get a hold of them when they are released? And what outlets are they released to?

Press releases are generally sent to news publications that a business or PR agency thinks may be interested in running an article about the subject matter or including in a calendar or listing that’s on topic. It includes the who, what, when, where, why, how, pertinent background information and who to contact for further information. Press Releases are generally a single sheet of paper, back and front. Businesses may also include their own press releases on their web page. PR Newswire is a good source for information about press releases. The widespread use of social media has challenged the traditional press release.
