Which way do you come out if you dig through the center of the earth and then jump?

Asked by Act1v8 (7points) November 10th, 2008

Imagine that you can dig down deep the Earth, cross it’s centre and continue to do so until you rich the other side. Now climb back up and jump in the hole that you just dug with your feet down. Which way will you come out? Feet or head first?

Molten, I would surmise.

Just as you began to pop out the other side, you would fall back to the other. You would then continue to oscillate between the two ends of the hole. (source)

Yeah, like they said, you’d be hot, crispy and in limbo. And possibly crushed.

Does this work? ZING! It works.

Well…. Feet first. I hope I space doesn’t fall on my head!

You wouldn’t come out at all.

I know there is a prop 8 joke in there somewhere…

You guys are stupid. You come out feet first, duh. Trust me, I’ve tried it.

Most likely alot flatter and feet first. The effect of gravity as you near the center of the earth becomes greater.

@Jreemy: Actually, according to the link posted above, the effect of gravity becomes less as you journey to the center. Pressure, however, is a different beast.
