I believe that fifty or less is usually considered a small wedding. Well, that’s what my wife tells me at least.

Five. Two spouses, an officiant, and two witnesses.

That would, of course, be zero guests, assuming your witnesses don’t count.

@laureth or who ever can answer
Are witness really necessary?or does it vary by state?

At my wedding, all five of us had to sign the form, or it wasn’t legal. This was in Michigan, although marriages are a State sort of thing.

I would say 1–100 guests. I know about 50 people, add the ‘other half’ and I would say those are friends and family. Anything above that and it’s just ridiculous.

There were two guests at our wedding; the right number to serve as witnesses.

I would think 75 or under would be a small wedding. Medium would be between 76 and 125. Over that I would call large. This is just me—nothing official mind you.

About the same as a large orgy.

My first wedding had about 50 guests and was considered small by most people. My second wedding had only 16 guests and was considered small by me. I much preferred the latter.
