What is more obnoxious: "First dude" or "Blago sphere"?

Asked by tonedef (3935points) December 17th, 2008

Fox (specifically Greta van Sustern) coined the term “first dude” to give Todd Palin a homey (NOT homo!), macho appeal. CNN (specifically Wolf Blitzer) coined the “witty” play on words, “Blago sphere” to describe the group of people involved in the senate seat scandal.

Which one of these abortive neologisms is more obnoxious?

I think that “first dude” is suckier, because it rolled gay panic, stereotypical gender roles, and Greta desperately repeating the phrase.

“Greta! Stop tryint to make ‘first dude’ happen. “first dude” is NEVER going to happen!”

Blago-sphere. I mean, I hate it when it refers to blogs too, but I think that usurping it from the good name (ha!) of blogging to use for political scandals is way more obnoxious than calling someone the first dude. I mean, whatever, I think we all know the proper term is First Gentleman, as gentleman corresponds with lady (and we wouldn’t say First Lord which also corresponds with lady).

They’re both so bad, I want to turn off my TV forever. Hey. Wait. That’s what I did!

Wow, I hadn’t heard of Blago-sphere before just now. It’s atrocious. First dude at least is related to First Lady. But Blago-sphere sounds way too much like blogosphere, which is also a phrase I detest.

Like daloon, I’m glad to say I’ve opted out of the TV world.

Yeah… “first dude” just seems out-of-touch and stupid, but blago sphere makes me literally cringe. It’s different kinds of horrible, I think.

First dude, for sure. Why the ‘dude’? It’s ‘first lady’, not ‘first chick’. Come on, news media people. At least ‘blagosphere’ is an attempt at a play on words.
Incidentally, when Blagojevich fist got elected, I couldn’t stand hearing the Chicago news calling him Blago. Despite the fact that I despised him, even then, I thought it was a little disrespectful. But now that he’s been caught and made an ass out of, bring on the Blago!

I mean, how does it sound any diferent, otherwise?

Blago – sounds like a Batman villain. The Blagosphere would be his world-conquering weapon.

First Dude – only Cheech or maybe Carlin could have pulled this one off successfully.

Wasn’t ‘First Dude’ actually coined by the Palins themselves & just picked up by the media? Either way, it made me want to barf every time I heard it so it gets my vote.

dig dig dig

Todd Palin gave credit to U.S. Magistrate Judge Sebelius in an interview with Fox News host Greta Van Susteren.

“Who came up with ‘first dude’? It’s a great name,” Van Susteren asked.

“I’m not the first male spouse that’s been called ‘first dude,’ ” Palin responded. “The gentleman from Kansas who’s a judge, he’s got that title.”

Greta is still guilty of repeating it ad nauseum, trying to supplant ‘electability’ and ‘gravitas’ with the new hot thing in election coverage.
