Have I run out of luck?

Asked by madcapper (3105points) December 18th, 2008

So in the past five years I have run in to tow girls I really think I “loved” and another 3 which I could have gotten to know better. None-the-less I am nowhere with nay of them now and is there point when one just gives up? it never seems to work for me so should I just stop? ( I have been very sarcastic to many peoples questions so go ahead I will not be offended.”

You really think it’s possible for a man to just stop?
It sounds like you’re just frustrated with your lack of lasting success so far.

@ trustinglife you may be correct haha

Keep waiting, keep trying, you’ll find someone.

That you are rude to others in their questions is no excuse for others to be rude in yours.

Love is a tough beast. Sometimes you find it when you’re not looking. Sometimes you find it in a person you can’t have. Sometimes you find it when you are not available for it. Sometimes you don’t find it at all. Sometimes you find it, but lose it.

Luck is overrated though. One can’t sit back playing video games all day and expect love to barge in and find them. One needs to be more active in meeting people. The more people you meet, and the more girls you talk to, the higher the chances become that you’ll find one you’re compatible with. Even though it seems meeting girls is not your issue, I would still advise going out and joining a class of something you like to do or are interested in doing. At the very least it takes your mind off the “ticking love bomb” in the back of your head.

It’s been said many times that people find love when they don’t try to. And I have to add my support to that advice. Back in the day I was anxious about not having a partner. But when I stopped worrying about it and just went on with my life, I ran into an awesome guy who is now my partner. So if you’ve been having some rough times with love, take a break from it and just spend time loving yourself instead tee hee.

And cause I feel it’s appropriate and quite relevant here, I’d like to share with you one of my favorite quotes, a portion of Act 1 Scene 4 of Romeo and Juliet, the discussion between a heartbroken Romeo and his best friend Mercutio.
.
ROMEO

Not I, believe me: you have dancing shoes
With nimble soles: I have a soul of lead
So stakes me to the ground I cannot move.

MERCUTIO

You are a lover; borrow Cupid’s wings,
And soar with them above a common bound.

ROMEO

I am too sore enpierced with his shaft
To soar with his light feathers, and so bound,
I cannot bound a pitch above dull woe:
Under love’s heavy burden do I sink.

MERCUTIO

And, to sink in it, should you burden love;
Too great oppression for a tender thing.

ROMEO

Is love a tender thing? it is too rough,
Too rude, too boisterous, and it pricks like thorn.

MERCUTIO

If love be rough with you, be rough with love;
Prick love for pricking, and you beat love down.

If you decide to stop, I’m sure the Catholic Church could use another priest these days.

Seriously though madcapper, my guess is that you just havn’t found the one yet and it’s just a matter of time.

You could take on a research project. Think of yourself as a product. What do women want from a man. Research that, and then make yourself over into what they want. Actually, that’s what I did in high school, when I was a junior, and having no “luck.” Eventually, I found a number of women who loved me. Then it turned out that didn’t solve my problem, but that’s another story.

@forestGeek. No offense, but I don’t think being a Catholic priest necessarily excludes men from “relationships” with others… Just a thought…

Take a break from relationships, enjoy being single for awile

@dynamicduo: The thing that makes me giggle is that Romeo is definitely like 13 years old.

dynamicduo's avatar

Romeo might be, but Shakespeare sure wasn’t ;)

And hey, back when you only lived till 40 or 50 if you were lucky, 13 is already a quarter of your life gone! So by our standards yeah it’s a bit weird, but not by theirs.

madcapper's avatar

@ daloon yeah making yourself into what women are gonna want will only make mor problems in the end haha.

Thanks for all the answers!
I’m off to the dioceses to check into priesthood… haha

She’s out there… trust me. More than likely, she’s thinking the same thing you are, so, if not for yourself, hang on to hope for her.

“Luck is in the eye of the beholder”
I’m with coffeenut, take a break from “love”
try to have a relationship free week(s)/month to let your batteries recharge, enjoy being single, after you feel better you may have a new look on how relationships can be formed/developed, and in the end “true love can’t be made it just happens” so instead of looking for it let it look for you.

madcapper's avatar

@ windex tow is what you get when you mis-spell two and don’t realize your mistake, usually, but in my case it’s girls that drive tow trucks… very sexy

Judi's avatar

How old are you?

Judi's avatar

You have plenty of time to find you’re love match. My best advice is to work on being the happiest best single person. Usually women are attracted to people who are content and confidant in themselves. Usually when you finally “give up as you put it, that’s when they come running!

madcapper's avatar

Thanks Judi I think thats good advice. I think I have just been a little stressed about it as I have a lot of friends getting married and most are in relationships besides me so it’s seems kind of pressured…
