See richarhenry’s answer in this thread regarding revenue:

And, logged in, I see two ads right now on this page. ==========>

- One for Amazon
– Another selling the Fluther tee.

If you are not logged in there are more ads.

Thanks to everyone… that helps. I see that if you get here from a browser you see ads. That was also a very interesting discussion on the page referenced.

Fluther is sponsored by Apple and the Democratic National Committee. Any time an Apple product or Barack Obama gets mentioned in a thread, Fluther gets paid. dalepetrie is single-handedly responsible for paying Andrew’s Starbucks bills

I would presume that the site is still running off some investment capital, giving them room to explore different ad systems and monetization strategies.

@Zanbabe: You haven’t received your bill yet? Don’t worry, you will. :)

I love how unobtrusive the ads are. Sometimes I forget that there are ads.

Copy paste from my response in another thread:

Ads are served to non-members; the guys that arrive into questions by searching for information on Google or whatever. If you log out and view this question, you’ll see ads at the top of the discussion section.

Fluther also has a commission account at Amazon. So if I suggested an item on Amazon.com in response to something, and you followed the link and then bought it, Amazon knows that you arrived there from Fluther.

Fluther receives a small percentage of the profit from the sale. It doesn’t cost you anymore though; it’s just Amazon saying thanks to Fluther for referring you to them.

The third revenue stream is from the Fluther shirts sold at Insanely Great tees. Buy yours today!

The final revenue stream is from selling the organs of people that have over-Fluthered and slipped into a coma. Felt sleepy yesterday? Missing a kidney? Now you know why.

Edit: Just saw Snoopy already linked. Oops.

@andrew Perhaps you’d prefer an oolong, or some biscotti?
