What doesn't give you cancer anymore?

Asked by cdwccrn (3610points) December 23rd, 2008 from iPhone

Seems like everything has been accused of causing cancer at one point or another. Is there anything left that is really safe?

Eh, I dunno but I think beer is still good for you…
Ha but really, I suppose anything done without moderation is bad for you, except cancer sticks which are bad for you even if you dont smoke em.

Do Cell Phones still give you cancer? What about Microwaves?

asmonet's avatar

Boogers.

Those are cancer free snacks.

Everything man-made, everything man touches is poison.
God grown natural foods were always the answer, oh and hemp oil cures all cancers/diseases but big pharma don’t want you to know since there’s much money made in radiation and chemo which again is poison because you don’t usually recuperate from the cancer, it makes your body much weaker and vonurable to be defeated.

asmonet's avatar

@seVen: That’s straight up bullshit. And further, it show a complete lack of understanding regarding the human body and modern medicine.

“God grown natural foods”
Do you forage for breakfast in the woods? Because you sure as hell aren’t purchasing anything that qualifies.

Too bad study stats aren’t made by independent organizations on things like this no more for proof, but aww well believe what you will.

Edit/correction : Legit independent study statistics.

water, orange juice? Those sound like pretty decent options to not only not cause but to prevent cancer.

@Mr. Dan, green tea too, that is actually supposed to fight cancer.

rossi_bear's avatar

that is a really hard thing to say. at some point they change their minds about what they say causes and don’t cause. the only safe thing i can think of right off is like supermouse said green tea fight against cancer cells. the things you can get in health stores are all safe too.

Everything causes cancer if you give it enough time. We’re just noticing it more because our life expectancies are getting so long.

For males, unprotected sex as far as I know you can only get herpes, syphilis, gonorrhea, AIDS, crabs, chlamydia, LGV, HPV, genital warts and trichomoniasis from unprotected sex if you’re a man

Are you kidding RandomMrdan? Water? The water is polluted, of course it causes cancer! Orange juice…with all the pesticicdes…surely OJ causes cancer too.

We’ve all got to die of something…might as well enjoy the time we’ve got!

Hugging kids and petting cats/dogs as long as they haven’t been under the power lines for too long ;-)

Listen, I have cancer and have learned that cancer gives you cancer! (sort of!) I started with CLL (form of leukemia) and it goes hand-in-hand with a form of Lymphoma. YEP….I’m a cancer over achiever!

augustlan's avatar

@cak: I love how you maintain your sense of humor throughout your ordeal. I hope it improves, and soon!

shilolo's avatar

FYI, almost nothign definitively causes cancer. Many of the things thought to cause cancer are merely associations. Cause and effect are very difficult to prove in long term medical studies.

RandomMrdan's avatar

@dale I thought studies have been done to show that drinking a glass of orange juice will help prevent certain cancers, and drinking water each day can prevent prostate cancer.

Obviously I won’t go around drinking polluted water if I have anything to say about it. As for the orange juice goes, I guess I just have to depend on quality control to prevent pesticides from getting into the OJ.

dalepetrie's avatar

I was mostly joking!

RandomMrdan's avatar

oh, heh. I for some reason always take you for a very serious person…heh

bodyhead's avatar

He’s actually right. Tapwater most places has different additives and most orange juice has undergone a pasteurization process.

Surely too much fluoride causes cancer. My water tastes great but I’m sure what’s in it will eventually give me cancer.

I’ve heard that free radicals are created from any of the above many “causes”. Then, it’s a matter of whether your body is able to either keep fighting them off or not. If you can’t fight them off, they begin attacking other cells (aka Cancer)

asmonet's avatar

Wow, misinformation at it’s finest.

shilolo's avatar

@asmonet. Agreed. I really don’t have the time to correct all of the confusion and misinformation here as I am on vacation. Leave it at this, no studies have shown that anything in particular can prevent cancer reliably. Likewise, there is no evidence that preventing the formation of free radicals or eliminating them with anti-oxidants does much either. To misquote Albert Einstein, maybe God does roll the dice with the universse…

asmonet's avatar

@shi: Lurve. There seems to be a lot of confusion about how cancer behaves itself as well.

Guys, go buy a medical book or twenty. Cause this is getting ridiculous.

JohnRobert's avatar

sorry cdw. It looks like we have a lot of opinions and no real answers for you (mine included). asmonet’s first answer was probably the best, then it went down hill from there. Maybe Kashi will come out with booger bars!

asmonet's avatar

Mmm, Booger Bars.

Heh, it would have to be Kashi.

“All natural, delicious soy-based Booger Bars.”
