Who are you?

Asked by tyrantxseries (4722points) December 29th, 2008

have you ever looked in the mirror and not recognized the face looking back?(your reflection)
(NOT because of age lines/no makeup/stress/your view of what you should be looking like)
but actually not knowing who is looking back at you

I think that’s called LSD.

Yes.

I was pretty depressed at the time.

I knew it was “my” refection and not a random face in the crowd. But I didn’t know what that meant.

wow, i can see how this thread could be real hot, but the angle of the question sends it in another direction.

oh, well. my identity still remains a mystery, as well as the rest of the collective…

Occasionally, I will glance at my reflection in a store window, and voilà, my grandmother is looking back at me.

I’ve lost 33 lbs in the last 15 months and today at the Doctor’s office, different mirror than usual, and I did not recognize myself. The last time I was at this weight was over 20 years ago.

Wonderful accomplishment, Steve. How did you do it? Any cheating?

@gailcalled.

that recalls the old line about shaving in the morning and seeing your dad in the mirror.

Lovely. I await and will resist the new Paul Newman line of organic Oreos.

I think I know what you mean… But I am like that with everything. If I stare at something or think on something too long I start to have anxiety attacks. I am pretty sure I have an anxiety disorder though… But that is irrelavant.

Yeahhh, I woulda done more but I wanted to make sure no one posted before me. Otherwise it may have been confusing.

I just watched the movie “Flight” with Denzel Washington. At the end of the movie the son asked his father “Who are you”? Some people may point to their profession or other activities to define who they are. But if that is true then who you are changes through time. For example a high school student then a college student then a soldier, then a CEO then a senior citizen. But I think that who you really are doesn’t change much.

Who am I? In a nutshell I’ve always been a struggler who seems to have unlimited perseverance and determination with a true love hard monotonous hard work and nature. I’m an introverted master of mediocrity who knows a little bit about everything and a lot about nothing.
