How fanatic are you?

Asked by wundayatta (58722points) January 12th, 2009

There are fans here in Eagles Land who probably bleed green. They take their fan busses and drive all over the country to see the team. Eagles fans are also known for their hostility towards fans of other teams, although they are learning a measure of tolerance. Santa Claus is safe… for now.

What are you a fan of? What is the emotional impact of your team’s wins and losses on you? On your city or region? How far will you go to support your team? Have you ever gotten into a fight over your team? Do you brag or feel proud when your team wins?

I Lurve the Birds, but don’t consider myself fanatical. I have my Eagles cap in the rear windshield of my car, and I wear my Eagles fleece and/or socks on game day. I will razz the Giants fans I know about yesterday’s game—but it is all lighthearted and had the outcome been different, I would be graciously taking what they had to dish out today.

The first NFL game I went to was the Steelers at the Ravens a few years back… there were many fights in the stands to the point of physical injury. I never understood that mentality—what is the point of getting into a physical confrontation over something that is basically entertainment that we ‘fans’ have no control over?

I’ve been a fan of the Broncos since 1987. I don’t live anywhere near Denver, so I don’t get to see them play. I never miss a game on tv though. I wear the sweatshirts, have the license plate cover and bumper sticker. I even cried when they lost a playoff game about 10 years ago. It was my birthday and a few beers were involved. It was a disappointing season, and it does make me a bit grumpy, but seeing the Chargers go down last night was awesome!

We have Ravens season tickets; so obviously we are fans. We participate in a 100 person tailgate, we laugh we have fun. We wear our Ravens hats, or sweatshirts, at games. We will, in good nature. tease and be teased depending on our teams success or failure. But in the stadium is is un-freaking believable the extent to which some people take their team pride. Fights, angry insults flung at others, outrageous outfits and tears shed over wins & losses. When the Steelers were here a couple of weeks ago, we witnessed no less than 6 brawls. The Baltimore/Washington area is know for a big fan base and a lot of spirit. The Ravens, Redskins, Orioles; they all draw huge crowns and rabid fans. The same can be said for UofMd sports; big attendance, big fan base. I support our teams, to a point.

Eagles fan? (cough*Shilolo!*cough)

I’m not a huge fan of anything. I support the Titans, UT Vols, NC Tarheels, and of course the UCD Aggies (even if they kind of suck).

I’m an Arizona Cardinals fan and nobody ever cared about my team enough to get into anything about ‘em… at least not until this season. Even now though it seems the Cards have come out of left field and people still don’t really know what to think. Anyway, based on the fact that my team has a longstanding record of being insignificant and, pretty much ignored, I’ve never had any problems with opposing fans.

As far as myself, I’ve got the hat, shirts, and team spirit. Oh and and this season’s given me the ability to drive my wife nuts with “Cardinals this” and “Cardinals that.” She’s soooo happy lol

@Sakata: Well, you are in for a treat! Eagles fans are rabid, and there will probably be a lot of them in your stadium. They will be screaming their heads off, unless, of course, the Cards get an early lead and hold onto it.

It’s interesting that the two lowest seeds got into the championship game. The Eagles are somewhat concerned about the heat. They have a history of conking out because of dehydration, pickle juice or no (they once brought pickle juice down to a season-opening game with the Cowboys, and they won the game).

Anyway, no one is expecting the Cards to be the same Cards that we blew out earlier this season. We’re expecting a very tough game.

Well. I’m a huge fan of the band MUSE (i know it ain’t football, but you said what are you a fan of…)
They are incredible live and I actually prefer listening to their recorded live performances than their studio versions.
So when my girlfriend said
“it wouldn’t surprise me if they lip synched”
I didn’t speak to her for a day…

@cage: lmao… that’s funny. Yea, Muse does rock.

@daloon: I’m just hoping for 2 things.
#1 – That Zona can bring the same A-game they brought last weekend.
(Gotta keep on that running game)
#2 – That the birds don’t bring any pickle juice.
(or any other juice for that matter)

It’s a home game though so I’m pretty confident on a win. It should be a good one either way. Maybe not as good as the AFC game though. That one’s gonna be awesome.

@Sakata: I was at the game on Thanksgiving… they say that your team isn’t the same, but the Eagles aren’t either! That was just the first game in our turnaround. Our birds have what it takes to put your birds in their place (again). ^_^

I do know it will be a good game because both teams really seem to want it.

@Sakata- you are right, the AFC game will be better. There will also be some feathers flying in the Super Bowl, and in the end, the AFC will win!

Hmm, I never thought of it that way, but you’re right. Three of the four remaining teams use birds as mascots.

If the Eagles get to the Superbowl, they have an excellent chance of winning it all. They beat the Steelers, and they are now a much better team than the one that lost to the Ravens. I should also point at that they creamed the Cards earlier, but there are a lot of reasons to think that was an anomaly. The Cards had travelled east and had only three days rest.

The current game is very different. The Eagles are going west this time, and are not used to the heat. The Cards, also, have been playing very well since they played the Eagles, and appear to be quite a different team.

All in all, I’d think the AFC should be fairly nervous about whoever they will face in the Superbowl. I suspect that one bird or another will end up as NFL champion. Obviously, I hope it’s the Eagles, since they haven’t won it since 1960. Hmmm. The Cards last won in 1947 and have never been in the Superbowl. They have to be the sentimental favorite. Oh well.

Go Ravens!

Sakata's avatar

I’m personally hoping for a Ravens – Cardinals Super Bowl but I guess it would be cool if it were an all-Pennsylvania Super Bowl too. I won’t watch it, but I’m sure it would be cool

lol

Manchester United—isn’t that the best team money can buy? Kind of like the Yankees?

Sorry, we can’t hear you, too busy winning. Call back later, please.
