Anyone have any GREAT music suggestions for me?

Asked by summertimehigh (17points) January 20th, 2009

Hey I’m new! I’m really looking for something interesting and quality to put on my play lists. I like everything from hip hop to indie – with a major focus right now on female artists/country music/and easy listening. Any ideas?

you could try Imogen Heap – Speak for Yourself.. it’s not country its more subtle electric but it’s real good!!

Female wise I really love Brandi Carlisle but honestly at the moment my favorite male is Amos Lee. He has a beautiful voice.

The new Raconteurs CD is very sick.
The Black Keys.
And I like a few songs from the new Kanye CD.

I couldn’t recommend muse enough. Personally life changing.

Interpol are also amazing.
Klaxons, Biffy Clyro, Arctic Monkeys.

Sorry I am old and most of the people I listen to are either dead or members of the Rolling Stones. One new CD I loved (got it last year as a birthday present) was Amy McDonald’s. It was a very good production, regardless of whether one likes the music or not. Job well done.

How about Regina Spektor, Fiona Apple, Feist, and Emily Haines? They’re some great female vocalists.

@cage – Muse is effing amazing. Completely life changing.

summertimehigh's avatar

I’ll definitely check them out =] and cage Im SO glad you said muse. I LOVE muse.

ladytmerie's avatar

@shadling. Lurve for Regina Spektor!

@summertimehigh AWESOME!!! I actually prefer muse live.
I have their whole discography, b-sides, rare recordings, bonus, appearances on various artists compilations, vinyls, promo disks, etc.
But nothing, absolutely nothing beats the sound of them live. Mainly because of the different things Matt does with the guitar in each performance.
Even better if you’re there.

even better if its at a tiny gig being recorded for MTV and you;re front row and you meet them after and they sign your plug in baby vinyl and speak to your friend on the phone and the lead singer steals your pen, apologises and thanks you…:D

summertimehigh's avatar

@cage haha agreed! they are incredible.

Muse IS GREATNESS.
And the Klaxons.

Oh yeah Joss Stone is pretty chill stuff.

100% my favourite cd at the moment: “She & Him” – volume one.
Excellent easy to listen to music.

nebule's avatar

perhaps…Muse? ;-) lol…they are genius though!

edit: and they are amazing in concert although unfortunately i’ haven’t been lucky enough to meet the guys :-(

Menomena is pretty good. Band of Horses is too. Of Montreal I like a lot. It’s a few years old, but Joan As Police Woman’s Real Life is wonderful.

@meemorize – Lurve!

That reminds me… Stars is a good band too.

I absolutely love Alela Diane (check out some great videos she has on youtube!), Brandi Carlile, Norah Jones, Anne Heaton (Pieces of Me-awesome song!), Lisa Hannigan, Eleni Mandell (favorite song-Can’t You See that I’m Soulful) and A Fine Frenzy. There’s a lot of variety in these choices, some more, some less country with a bent toward emotional lyrics and acoustic music. I like soulful and poetic music.
