Call the grandparents!

If the girl across the street can’t do it then it’s on to the grandparents (but they’re usually involved in whatever the “thing” is so, typically, they’re out). After that… nobody.

Panic. Then I start down my list. If my daughter can’t, then I call my mother. If she can’t, we have friends that are always offering, or back-up sitters.

It happens, that last minute bailing on plans, by a sitter or the need for one, quickly. It really can be hard to find someone in a pinch, but we just go down the list. That’s all we can do!

That’s what best friends are for, silly.

Pretty easy for me, I have a sister as a sitter, though usually I just stay with my daughter (or take her with me if I have to).
It’s usually the other way around, my sister, girlfriend and various friends using me at short notice.

I’ve only needed a short-notice babysitter once, and ended up paying this guy that I’d used before and my daughter knew. He was great but too expensive.

The grandparents, or my sister in law. I also have a friend that will usually do it last minute.

Call the sitting service that provides sitters to the hotels, and be prepared to pay an exorbitant fee.
