Is there a website I can use for resourcing other than Wikipedia?

Asked by _ (46points) February 22nd, 2009

People say that Wikipedia is not a good source because “Anyone can edit it”. Well, I think it is. But, just to be safe, what is another site just like it. I could google it all, but would prefer the whole “Find it right away” thing just like Wikipedia.

There used to be a place where all sorts of knowledge could be found. Volumes and volumes of information all in one spot having previously been subjected to a rigorous editing and publishing process. Now what was this place called.. what was it…. oh.. right… the library.

@seVen I’d hardly call that site a reliable source. Not exactly unbiased.

Google + judgment

(For example, if you want medical information, Google the key words or phrase and see what turns up, using a reliable souce like the Mayo Clinic’s website before “Joe Bob’s Meds & stuff.”)

Or, do the Wikipedia thing, but use it only as a starting point, for clues about things to look up. Or you can scroll to the bottom of the Wiki page and look up their sources, which might be less editable by the general public.

@seVen , @augustlan
I actually liked it, even though it did not have much info. It is easy to manage, and pretty much just like wikipedia. Thanks.

@_ if you’re looking for a website that is reliable, ‘conservapedia’ is a lot less reliable than wikipedia. if you’re looking for something that ridiculous and based nearly solely on opinion, check out a random teenager’s myspace blog.
not that wikipedia is the most reliable website ever, but at least they don’t advertise their arrogance on the front page, and isn’t just edited by people of one mindset/political party.

@laureth
I didn’t see an “edit” tab on top.

@_: You have to read their Commandments and register to edit, just like on Wikipedia. Also, here’s their About page. Basically, they appear to be a spoof of Wikipedia, with right-wing information.
