Why is the golden bridge silver?

Just saw it for the first time (yes I’m in sf). It’s silver, wtf?

huh, you mean the “Golden Gate” ???? That’s red, the grey one is the Bay Bridge

Because its a bridge to The Golden Gate

The Golden Gate Bridge is not a gold bridge but instead is the bridge to the gateway to the Golden State. For a gold bridge, see the Sacramento Tower Bridge. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tower_Bridge_(California)

Even prior to its construction that strait was called the “Golden gate”—both because of the gold reserves discovered in California, and because of the golden color of the hills in the summer.

The silver/grey bridge is the Bay Bridge—as someone mentioned above =)
