never bought one but certain of their models seem to get good reviews. acer is a company i had experience years and ago at work and it wasn’t good, but that was years ago. do a little bit of research and you should find the reviews.

I think that just like any laptop brand, the lower end model is probably not going to get rave reviews, but when you move up the scale a little you’ll probably end up with a better computer.

But that’s just me.

I have an Acer Aspire One mini laptop and I love it. I’ve never had any trouble with it. It was less than $300 and does whatever I want-which is to get on the internet in my easy chair. It also keeps me from having to go the computer room downstairs to get on my desktop. It runs good and fast. My husband has a higher end full size laptop and when he got it he had to change the OS from Vista and change all kinds of crap on it. I just fired up my Acer and it worked like a champ.

They are terrible!!!
Don’t waste your money!
I bought one and it never worked right for me. I brought it back to the store I bought it at three times for them to fix, had an independent guy look at it and sent it back to the factory to be fixed. I finally gave up in it.
It was the most worthless piece of junk I ever bought.

I have one, and it was VERY affordable. I’ve had it for a couple of months, and it’s great! I know a lot about computers, did tons of research, and acer is the way to go.

I have an Acer Aspire 5735. Dual core, 4 GB ram, wireless, 250 hard drive, and webcam… all for $589 no tax, no shipping.

Well, my Acer Aspire One just died on me, so you can guess! And it’s no more that 6 months old! So I’m no Acer-fan at the moment, I’m sorry…

We have two and love them both. For the money it’s difficult to get a better notebook.

Acers are terrible laptops. The only thing they have going for them is a low price tag. I recommend Lenovo or HP over the Acer brand. Everything about Acers just screams cheap.

I have an Acer Aspire 5000 laptop. I bought it in November of 2005. First the good: Even after everything we’ve been through, I love this laptop. It’s classy, affordable, doesn’t come with a whole lot of crap software already installed coughHPcough, has an efficient motherboard.

The bad: For the past year, it has been having major overheating issues. It also has certain visual graphics/color tint problems and so watching any videos/pictures at all is frustrating to say the least. Also, since it’s German brand, it doesn’t have the outputs that American laptops has, I speak most specifically about the S-video wire output (to connect laptop to TV). This wasn’t a big deal for me, but it might be for you depending on you plan to use it. I would definitely carefully examine the laptop before buying it so you KNOW what outputs it does/doesn’t have.

A lot of Acer laptops have overheating issues, so keep that in mind. But of course, what you choose depends on how long you want it, what features you are looking for and your price range. Good luck laptop shopping (I will be doing the same this summer)!

I’ve been using my Acer 5000 for almost two years now. Other than my battery life being shit, I don’t have any complaints.

rooeytoo's avatar

My complaint is when you do need service it is virtually impossible to find out where to send it. Their website gives no telephone numbers and no lists of certified repair centers. Makes you wonder a little doesn’t it!!!! I finally took it back to the store where it was purchased and they gave me a phone number to call to find out the secret service location.

Just don’t get a Gateway. Those are truly bad computers.

I’m very surprised. This thread has gone 8 hours without somebody trying to convince somebody else to buy apple.

What is happening?

superdan's avatar

it is crap… get an apple. buy gift cards till you have the credit if you need to. its worth it. want proof?? ask apple owners.

rooeytoo's avatar

I agree with superdan!!!

@dverhey – you jinxed the thread! :(

Back when I was building my own computers, I always regretted buying Acer components. Their laptops may be different, but I wouldn’t bet on it.

I have an mini Acer Aspire and I love it. It’s very practical. the only think i don’t like about it (and this is not directly an Acer issue) is the small keyboard. This computer is practical, not a lot of bells and whistles but it does what a computer is supposed to do.

Acer is solid and reliable in my experience
