Have you ever been to a medal or hardcore showcase?

Asked by vegelizabeth (723points) July 1st, 2009

I was just wondering who has been to a hardcore or medal showcase, if so how crazy has it gotten? and what are your favorite bands that you have seen live?

I’ve been to quite a few, and I’ve seen plenty of broken noses, teeth on the ground, and some pretty brutal fights. just to name a few.

metal?

My first concert ever was a GWAR concert. They shoot fake blood, urine, and semen at you. It got pretty crazy and I almost got really hurt. I saw them a second time, and it was much more laid back. Probably because I stayed out of the pit.

I’ve been to many obscure punk bands in the basement of Philly houses, that’s where the major injuries happen. I’ve seen people sliced open from drop kicking mirrors.
I also went to Ozzfest 2001, which was my first festival. It was great, first time I crowd surfed. Nothing too out of hand though, because they had a ton of security.

Anthrax FTW

I never have and don’t know anything about ‘em. Why the fighting?

evolverevolve's avatar

All the hardcore I’ve heard sounds like Limp Bizkit, what’s the point of breaking someone’s face? For the rush? Is it about the music, man? Is it about life? I never understood that. They should start boxing or something, they’d be more productive.

I once went to a Metallica concert and a moshpit almost happened

vegelizabeth's avatar

Well it’s not really fighting, usually just moshing. But it tends to result in fights sometimes.

vegelizabeth's avatar

Moshing or slamming refers to the activity in which audience members at live music performances aggressively push or slam into each other.

elijah's avatar

@evolverevolve haha hardcore sounds nothing like limp bizkit.

Punk shows used to be an event of all around retardedness, what with Skinheads, Deatheads, Nazi Punks, skater punks, homeless street punks, thrash punks, SoCal versus NoCal punks. Good times.

vegelizabeth's avatar

@elijah – hahah thank you ! i was about to say that.

evolverevolve's avatar

@elijah @vegelizabeth maybe not, but just as shitty

vegelizabeth's avatar

i usually go to a lot of local shows, but i also like Job for a cowboy, Norma Jean and Underoath live.

“Metal-ica”.

evolverevolve's avatar

@jmah its all about metal fuck hardcore, they’re pussies that couldn’t hang with metalheads anyway

vegelizabeth's avatar

i didn’t realize that until after :X

I saw Front 242 and Ministry in 1991. I was in the very front and by the time Ministry came on stage I had a girl climb on top of me to get to the front. The pressure of everyone pushing me against the stage made me breathless. I’m only 5’3”. It was too much for me. I had to have someone pull me out of there or I would have been crushed.

SirBailey's avatar

@vegelizabeth, and they slam each other because?

vegelizabeth's avatar

@jonsblond – i’ve seen that so many times, i’m always feeling bad. I’m 5’7 so i don’t really have that problem !

Jude's avatar

Went to “Rage”, Ministry (Jonsblond :)) and my older brother dragged us to Motorhead. How’s that? :)

vegelizabeth's avatar

@Sirbailey- there is no real reason, it’s just a rush you get ! it’s unexplainable.

jonsblond's avatar

@jmah Remember Halloween by Ministry. During their “softer” years? Loved that song!

SirBailey's avatar

@vegelizabeth. geesh! Nobody did that when I went to see “The Brooklyn Bridge”!!

Down was a really good show, and Damageplan was in my bar the night before a show here in Buffalo. They gave me tickets but I couldn’t get off work. The next night at a show was when Dimebag was killed. I still am pissed I didn’t go to the show.

vegelizabeth's avatar

@SirBailey- It’s not allowed at all venues. that maybe why..?

evolverevolve's avatar

The franklin county coroners office in columbus is part of where I work, I talked to the lady that did Dimebags autopsy

vegelizabeth's avatar

this is a lot like the music i listen to and go to shows for.

example of moshing and stuff: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l6R7PiISaZw

or the ‘Wall of death’ : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gKrGMbRc4NA&feature=related

SirBailey's avatar

@vegelizabeth, maybe, but I think it was mostly because they were a band of the 70’s!

vegelizabeth's avatar

@Sirbailey – that could be why !

Jude's avatar

@jonsblond yeah, I loved it. “A Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste” best album, IMO. Then you have their alter ego – The Revolting Cocks.

SirBailey's avatar

@, ya think? :)

evolverevolve's avatar

@elijah yea missing his last show would have been rough, who could have predicted that.

elijah's avatar

@evolverevolve yeah. At least I got to hang out with them for a few hours at my bar. We drank a lot. They loved me :)
I’ve thought of other great live shows- Superjoint Ritual, Cradle of Filth (they were on ozzfest and unfortunately I had to buy a ticket to see shitty bands like Korn and Disturbed)
and when one of our local bands (Every Time I Die) comes home those shows are insane.

vegelizabeth's avatar

@casheroo – GWAR is great, i’ve seen them a few times. There last show was very messy, A huge fake penis that squirted fake semen out at everyone. hahah it was bad.

The_Compassionate_Heretic's avatar

I’ve been to a lot of metal shows. Bruised ribs, too much beer, mosh pits, oh yeah.
It was fun then but the shows I see these days are better.

tiffyandthewall's avatar

i don’t really listen to/like metal or hardcore.
the closest to either i’ve been to was a drop dead gorgeous/dance gavin dance show, which was interesting. i’ve seen the devil wears prada, atreyu, and as i lay dying before also – all at different shows – and it wasn’t that rough. though, if we’re generalizing, the crowd was made up of mostly ‘scene’ kids. most of them were ‘hardcore dancing’ and moshing, but i don’t know. maybe they’re not rough crowds (i know they’re not compared to more metal bands), or maybe i’m just not that fazed by it. i was in the front for all of the mentioned shows.
