Why does my iPod charger do this?

Asked by Tink (8673points) July 3rd, 2009 from iPhone

I got this one charger and freezes my iPod, doesn’t charge it and everytime I plug it in, it makes the battery icon flash. Do I need a new one? I think I over used it though. Oh and can it harm my iPod in any way?

hey Dude

i would suggest you take it back if you’re unhappy….got the receipt? what’s the make? could the shop assistant help you?

the icon prob flashes either because it’s not working or because it’s actually charging….have you read the instructions….yes a real drag, but necessary sometimes?!!

bye penguin

Can return it, bought it online and didn’t come with instructions :(

tadpole's avatar

didn’t come with instructions? what sort of outfit did you buy it from, especially if you have the receipt!!!

if you look the makers webpage up they might have the instructions hidden away somewhere….

Tink's avatar

Nope…
I don’t have the receipt it was online dude!!!

You should get a receipt even though you buy it online. either in the mail or by email. Mail the charger back to them and ask for a new one.

Have you made sure it’s not the iPod that’s behaving strange? Try reseting and restoring it.

Tink's avatar

Won’t restoring it delete everything? I’m sure it’s not the iPod it’s the charger , when I plug the iPod in the computer everything is ok

wilhel1812's avatar

Restoring will delete everything, yes, but don’t you have all your music on your computer?
Have you tried with another charger? Like one that’s not connected to your computer?

Tink's avatar

No I delete all my music since i dont buy it

Then try the charger with another iPod and check if it has the same symptoms.
Why i want you to do this is that if you return your charger and there’s nothing wrong with it, you might have to pay a ~$100 fee for the troubleshooting.

hey my friend….again….

are you using spotify…...free streaming music….only the odd advert here and there….might be a cheap alternative for you…

as long as it has been released in the us…..might have got this wrong….look out for it….doesn’t solve an ipod problem but good for your pc…..apparently will be coming to portable music players/phones in the future…..

Tink's avatar

Limewire, for now. But I might need a new one :( and I’m gonna be in alot of trouble if there’s nothing I can do about it, I’m a first time iPod owner…

tadpole's avatar

hey why are you in trouble…....

i reckon itunes is on the way out…free music is on the way in, like spotify….

do you have an ipod that is compatible with a dock? ie the dock for ipods! then just connect it to your pc…the dock will charge your ipod….also via the mains if you prefer…

limewire rings a bell from a long time ago…pre-itunes….

Tink's avatar

I’m going to be in trouble if my fucken iPod is messed up and for sure my mom ain’t gonna but me another one!

tadpole's avatar

oh i see…

hmmmm…have we established if it’s the charger or the ipod that’s bust…you said you were going to return the charger?....tell me which ipod version you have…

get your money back on your charger if it’s bothering you…then get a charger in a shop? remember what i said about ipod docks….you could even just charge your ipod by a direct connection to your pc…not a very portable solution though…

Tink's avatar

It doesn’t want to charge on the computer now either. It’s the iPod with the problem
iPod version?

tadpole's avatar

oh crikey its not working…don’t worry i won’t tell your mum dude….

yeah, which gen…first, second, third, fourth, nano, mini, etc..go to apple’s webpage and look for the pages about the ipods…

Tink's avatar

2nd gen iPod touch, I think I messed it up because I tend to use it while charging…

tadpole's avatar

something you could do is take it to an applestore…all applestores will look at and maybe repair products if they can…it’ll cost you but it’ll prob be cheaper than a new one…or send it via secure mail to apple…or try an apple reseller…..

wilhel1812's avatar

@tadpole apple doesn’t repair iPods unless it’s covered by warranty…

@wilhel1812 ok..didn’t know..thanks for telling me..
