I'm sick, what should I eat, if anything?

Asked by hug_of_war (10735points) July 28th, 2009

Horrible stomach ache this morning, threw up around noon, tummy is still a bit upset. Not feeling so hot. Will eating upset it even more? I’m getting hungry, but unsure of what to do.

Chicken noodle soup. It has magical healing powers.

Eat a few crackers and see if you can hold that down. If you can, eat a few more.

I’m with Sarcasm. Chicken noodle soup is good. And the good thing is it comes out smoothly if you can’t hold it down.

BRAT

Start with simple things, see if you can handle them!

Something mild and easily digestible, such as dry toast or plain rice. Stay away from anything greasy. Also drink clear liquids: water, 7up, tea, broth.

Buy Coca cola, yoghurt and drink lots of water. Listen to your body, when trying this.

Also watch a something on tv that you find funny :) That will make you forget about the pain – your happyness could nullify that stomach ache :)

Soylent green

I’d say stick to liquids until your stomach settles, Then crackers as everyone has said, or maybe a bit of bread, that usually works for me.

Listen to jonsblond. She’s a Mom.

As others have said, saltine crackers or dry toast and a bit of ginger ale, apple juice, or coca cola, and then if that settles, try adding a bit of chicken soup. Because of the vomiting you are probably dehydrated so fluids are a good idea. Simple carbs will give you a bit of energy.

In any case, take it easy, relax in bed, and tomorrow I hope you will feel much better.

Pedialyte can’t hurt. It can help replace your nutrients. Get plenty of rest. I would take any of the suggestions above, a tiny bit at a time. Just a few sips, three or four bites, over an extended period of time.

If you have some electrolyte drink, then follow the directions. It says sip it – so sip it. Learn from my mistake. I had too much grape electrolytes too fast and my upchuck was purple. Kind of cool, kind of sick. Drink it slow.

sakura's avatar

Aw poor you, I hope you feel better soon. We we given dry toast when we felt sick and lat lemonade/coke.

Electrolytes are good, but only if you ghaven’t eaten for a long time, they replace the lost salts etc… from your body. If you are able to hold down normal food like noodle soups/toast etc… stick with that first.

I’m no doctor but hope this helpsxx
