Myspace. friend as many people as you can. Internet exposure is the quickest/cheapest/easiest. Secondly, make friends with other local musicians and get in on some shows.

Bottom line: YOU HAVE TO PLAY GIGS AND GET YOUR BAND’S NAME OUT THERE

Learn to network. Get in with more well-known local bands and ask to open for them. Make free stuff (stickers, patches, shirts, etc) and give it away. Be aware that music takes a while to be profitable, for a long time you WILL lose money doing it.

If there is a college radio station in your area go online or talk to the manager or whatever and send them your recordings. Ask to get playtime. Or ask to do a live radio show.

As previously mentioned, Myspace is a pretty good way to spread the word and it’s free… (I’m assuming you already have a music myspace…who the f**k doesn’t these days). Oh and when you make a myspace be sure to make cool looking banners and have them available (with the html code) on your page so people can put them on their page. Make sure they link to your mypace page so people will get curious and click on them.

What me and my old band did: made a demo CD with 3 or 4 tracks and gave it out at all of our gigs. Like I said, you lose money being a musician until you “make it big.” It takes a while just to start breaking even (if you’re promoting yourself and giving away free swag). People like free stuff…if you have a good sound, a decent demo CD, and cool logos/patches/whatever and give them away FREE, you will start getting fans.

If you’re serious about it, you should be willing to sink a lot of money into it.

Start your own religion and claim that the only way to “ascend” is to listen to your music and buy your merchandise.
