What is the best blackberry to buy? What's the best Canadian smartphone plan?

Asked by brettvdb (1192points) August 28th, 2009

My girlfriend is going to be buying a blackberry and isn’t sure which is the best one to get. Before I hit up google, I thought I’d pick your brains.

Also, if any Canadian flutherites have a blackberry, can they comment on what the best plans are for these things??

I have the Storm. I like it a lot, does a lot of the things an iPhone does, costs a lot less, looks snazzy. Takes a little getting used to though.

I have an iPhone with Rogers and I’m thinking of changing my plan. I called them up and I found out about this:

For 20$ (First month free)
Unlimited text messages
Unlimited picture/video messages
Call display and name display
Enhanced voicemail
WhoCalled

For 50$ (student plan)
200 minutes
Unlimited weekends and evenings
My 10 Canada-wide
500 MB data, but if you add 5$, you get 1 GB

Usually, it costs me 100$ for an iPhone/month. This is 70$.

Yay a BB question. I’m kind of a BlackBerry fanatic.

Let’s start out with the 83xx Curve.
It’s a great starter BlackBerry, especially because it’s so cheap. It works well, is fast and just a great phone overall. I think I’ve dropped my curve about 10 times on hard ground, and the most that’s happened is the battery door flew off.

The Storm is great if you want a touch screen. However you actually click the screen instead of just pressing on it with your finger tip. It’s a bit bigger than the rest of the BlackBerries (with the exception of maybe the Bold), but I think it’s awesome. Plus the Storm II is coming out! Woo!

The Curve 8900 This is my FAVORITE BlackBerry. It’s super sleek and it’s just an overall great phone. It’s incredibly fast, super light, and it’s about the same size as the 83xx. It’s honestly just an amazingly awesome phone.

The Bold is probably a BlackBerry I’ll never buy just because to me it’s freakin’ huge. It is a beautiful phone though. Different keyboard than the 83xx’s and the 8900 but you’d get used to it.

The 8520 just recently came out in Black and Ice Blue. This one doesn’t have the trackball, but it has an optical trackpad. I’ve heard tons of great things about this phone, and like the Curve 83xxs it’s a great starter phone.

Then there’s the Gemini, Onyx, Driftwood, Storm II, and some others that are still making their debuts.
Any other questions or if you want specifics, let me know.

www.crackberry.com is also a great site for reviews and what not. Check their forums.

@ABoyNamedBoobs03 Ha. I even have Pandora on everything. My comp, iPod and phone. It’s so wonderful isn’t it. I used to be a cute flip-phone kinda girl ‘til I got my berry. Now I’m obsessed :O
