Dumb FB Question.

Asked by starbuxaddct (10points) September 6th, 2009

I have scoured many a Google result looking for this answer, and now turn here because I cannot find it anywhere else. I’ve never posted here, so please forgive me if I sound elementary asking a question about Facebook.

Just recently, I was looking through a friend’s profile and noticed that someone was posting and their name is not linked. As in, I cannot click on their name and go to their profile… It’s not a matter of private or shared, you just can’t even click on their name. I do not know the person, just thought it was interesting that I cannot go to their profile.

Is this something that I can turn on? Is it something that you turn on so that only certain people cannot see or is that what happens when you block someone? What is this?

It’s most likely a part of that person’s privacy settings.

I’ve seen people like this, and I think it’s because they make it so no one can search for them at all…so they have to befriend you. But, there comments show up with an unlinked name. I just assume they are private people.

They have their privacy setting set to friends only. Most people have visibility to friends and friends of friends.

@casheroo – Thank you! You were right, it is in the search privacy settings. I had not seen that link before.

Privacy. You can make it to where people can’t do anything at all to interact with you. So it is, as a matter of fact, “a matter of private or shared.” I changed mine to this in an effort to keep my information private and had to change mine back after people couldn’t add me as a friend who I wanted to.

You can also block people or be blocked, but when that happens you can’t see anything that the person that blocked you posted or vice versa.

I thought you were calling one of FB’s question dumb. I almost took offense
