General Question

Jazz people... I'm looking for a certain type of Jazz, if it's even considered jazz... more inside.

Asked by poofandmook (17320points) September 28th, 2009

You know, you’ve seen it on TV… the kind of song that’s slow and smooth, usually with a mournful sounding horn, not much music I guess… a very light, slow percussion (usually done with a little broom looking thing instead of a drumstick), a piano, an upright bass… with a vocalist just sort of dripping out the lyrics.

I don’t know what type of jazz this is called… is it even jazz? And can you recommend any recordings, especially love songs?

I realize I’m probably not being descriptive enough, but I’m not knowledgable on music. I just know what sounds good

I think you might, based on that description, enjoy Norah Jones. Take a listen and look see to her Come Away with Me.

I think I know what you’re talking about. I’m not really a Jazz expert. Melody Gardot probably matches your suit. And let’s not forget Miles Davis

One of my favorite songs matches this description perfectly:

My One and Only Love by Johnny Hartman & John Coltrane

GA for @PretentiousArtist for Miles Davis

It’s McDonald’s commercial jazz, look for it on the Hamburlger’s new album
