Can I import a 3D model from Google Sketchup into a computer game?

Asked by mathwhiz1 (264points) November 12th, 2009

I have a game called Midtown Madness 2. A couple of months ago, I got this idea that it would be fun to drive a Honda Element in the game since I absolutely love that car. But, when I attempted to design that car, I found out that I don’t have the fine motor skills. I was using ZModeler. Then I came upon a program called Google Sketchup and in their 3D Model Warehouse, I saw that they have an Element in there. Here’s my question: Can I import that Honda Element model into MM2?

It is not just a matter of importing a model into a game. You need to convert the model to the correct format. then the model has to have separate submodels (like the wheels) and even the separate body panels (for the damage simulation ingame, if it has such a feature).
then you also need to write the config files or scripts that define the behaviour of the car, e.g. how it reacts to collisions, the handling characteristics, acceleration and braking, engine power, drag, and a whole lot of other stuff.
Since you don’t seem to have the background in modding, i can not recommend trying to do that as this will cost you a lot of time. a lot.
you are better off searching for mods on the internet.
